Hacking Backing up NAND backs up saves AND digital games?

I was recently told to use bootmii to backup my save files and the digital games (VC/WW) before using the Wii/WiiU's transfer software apps. This way i could pick and choose the parts I want to stay on my wii, while i outright move the others to the newer console. Here is the link for verification:

If anything I'm describing or anything written at the location of that link is a mistake or is just wrong, please let me know so that I can fix it. I've gotten bootmii, and installed it with the hackmii installer. I ran a scan on the IOS' and then put the results through modmii and took all the updated WADs i needed and successfully installed all of them. I booted up bootmii afterward and hit that option to backup the NAND. After a short while (while the grid is filled with green blocks from left to right as it scans)I got thinking this cannot possibly be everything. Am i truly backing up all ~0.5Gb of legal content thats on the wii or was there a misunderstanding? My next move is to use the transefer software to transfer all the content from the Wii to the Wii U, then do a recovery with the wii using bootmii to bring back all the software i just lost on it.

edit: I'm only asking for verification on this matter so there are no misunderstandings once i begin this process... as you know the transfer software is a 1 shot deal and doesnt go the other way. I need to have all my ducks in a row so there are no surprises.

The NAND backup will backup all your installed VC and Wii ware. I did this myself. After you transfer to Wii U all the digital rights to that software exist on your Wii U so you will not be able to redownload anything on your Wii. When I did the restore with bootmii it was complaining my backup was from a different Wii even but I proceeded anyway and it worked fine. (Bootmii also asked for the Konami code for confirmation, if you don't know it the code is up up down down left right left right B A start) Also, if you launch the Shop Channel on your Wii after restoring it will disable all your legal purchases. It refreshes the DRM, so do not launch the shop channel. If you do you can restore again to fix the issue but the shop channel will forever be your enemy on the old wii so don't lose your Nand backup.

I did a full Bootmii backup before transferring my data to the VWii, then restored it afterward. I was able to play all of my VC titles, but they were marked as unpurchased in the shop channel (but were purchased in the VWii shop channel, obviously).

funny you say that because i just looked in the vwii shop channel and it seems to have ALL the inventory of the wii's version of the same channel...

now i know someone said once i've done this, NOT to ever touch the wii shop channel again. Is it still safe to use internet based wii applications and games? Like is it safe to go have a few matches online with smash brothers brawl or watch some netflix on it afterward?

Also i have some pokemon stored on the pokemon ranch wiiware... i assume i should withdraw them back into my ds game (diamond) before i start this process... i'm afraid of losing some very rare pokemon. While im on the topic, im not sure if pokemon ranch contacts some internet server to bring new pokemon to the ranch to view for your pokedex or if its all programmed into the app... So if that one contacts the internet as well, i'd like to know if something like that would also be safe.

Internet is fine, just not the shopping channel. I have never actually tested this by opening the shopping channel myself but was told by someone who did that is what happens. I have played online since transferring but not too much as I have been playing Wii U almost exclusively.

I don't know jack about pokemon but better safe than sorry.

The vWii shop channel does have basically everything a real wii shop channel has except a few obsolete channels.

one last question, when your in the process of backing up your NANDs on your wii for this with bootmii, if any of the blocks show up as "bad block" should i be alarmed? will any of that have reprucussionswhen i restore my purchased stuff?

edit: i've now used bootmii to backup all my nand but im concerned weather or not ill be able to restore my stuff because whenever i go to bootmii it gives me the option to install it on ios... im not sure if i've ever actually installed bootmii or not but will this be a problem when i attempt to restore my nand? Or does the fact that i just backed up my nand already indicate that i've got it installed...

The bad blocks are normal when doing a backup.

I don't think you can do a restore if you don't have boot2. I did hear that it was risky or not possible to do a restore with bootmii as ios.

I have a boot2 wii. I don't know about NAND restore on newer wiis. It may be possible but I am not sure. Some one in the wii section would probably know better than me.

You can use your backed up NAND to play your stuff still I am just not sure about restoring it, you may have to use SNEEK or a loader to launch your title from emu NAND or pack your games in to wads to install them.

You can restore your backup even if you only have bootmii installed in IOS. Just keep in mind it is dangerous to do it because if for some reason the restore fails and your Wii can't start, then Bootmii can't help you. If you have it installed in boot2 then you can always boot directly into bootmii and try to restore again.

So it is more dangerous for you but technically it works just like if you had it installed in boot2.
