Hacking Angry Birds 3DS R4i Problems

I recently got one of these from a friend, and he said it wasn't working for him. Thinking I could fix it, I took it. Every time I try to start it, the 3DS goes to an error screen. Since I don't really want to use it on my 3DS, I pulled out my DS Lite. I start it and I am stuck at a white screen. Is the card broken or do I need another firmware? Also, I have searched, and I can't find an official firmware.
