To my knowledge, only psx4droid was removed by Sony due to the Xperia Play. Plus, the superior FPSE was still available afterwards (dunno if it's still there after this new raid).

I was looking for PSX4droid on the market, so this is why I couldn't find it... Luckily I already have Gameboid, which is a fantastic emulator that works flawlessly. I know one of the main reasons I got my Desire was because of the emulators on the market.

funny thing, RomFetcher: Playstation and RomFetcher: Classic are both still up, which are paid apps that allow you to download classic ROMs for free (like a paid version of ROM gripper)

I'm read it was Sega who kicked up a fuss about the genesis and sms emulators and I know Nintendo isn't very keen on them.

I am starting to get fed up with people saying Google is being evil, they don't have a responsibility to every developer to protect them legally and while Yongzh has done a really good job on the UI, he is still at fault for trying to make money off GPL software. I suppose you could say google is in the wrong for not giving him information on why his apps were taken off the market but he must have a pretty good idea why.

This did come as a bit of a shock to me though, just yesterday I was trying out android 3.0 tablets in town (the asus transformer is amazing) and I went to the market to download SNesoid and see how well it suited the larger screens only to find it missing. Is there any chance that he can re-upload them without adds or a price, he must have made a lot of money out of them so far since they've been floating around the top of the paid games section for ages now.

I suppose I've benefited out of all this because I snapped up the free and full version on SlideMe, by the way does anyone know how updates will work because you're only downloading an .apk file without tying it to an account?

you have to download the SAM app, it should alert you when an update is available, otherwise just keep checking online and when you see a new version install that and it will install on top of the old app

Thanks, will I ever have to pay for it though as I'm a bit cheap and the chances of my parents letting me buy stuff off android market is pretty low let alone third party stores.

nope, it's free for a now, although the article said he might eventually start charging for it again, but if you get it while it's free all updates should be free too, but i'm not entirely sure as this is the first time i've used the app

Does the GPL allow me to sell copies of the program for money?

Yes, the GPL allows everyone to do this. The right to sell copies is part of the definition of free software. Except in one special situation, there is no limit on what price you can charge. (The one exception is the required written offer to provide source code that must accompany binary-only release.)

What? so he can't even release unrelated apps with no legal problems, that does seem weird.

Making money off emulators that play copyrighted material, how could anyone even put them up on their store for money? The guy is just another crook by selling his product which runs illegal copies of games, that's worse then those of us who pirate, at least we aren't paying for emulators to do it.

Yes but he could of intended it to be used for homebrew games made for that system ect which are not illegal

Sorry but that's the biggest lie and excuse ever for creating emulators. They exist for the same purpose as flash cards and mod chips, to play pirated games and you know it just as well as anyone else. People like you need to stop pulling excuses like these out of your rear ends as a way of justifying things that break copyright laws. I am glad I will be buying every 3DS game I get instead of pirating it, so I don't have to make up lousy excuses like yours.

His account would have still been removed even if the emulators were free. Fact is, Google doesn't want the negative publicity of letting people post software on their market place that promotes piracy and I honestly can't say I blame them.

i seriously doubt that's why google did it, they only remove apps, search results, etc. when third parties pressure them to

Basically, most everything that could be related to piracy of any kind has been removed.

Are people honestly that surprised?
