It essentially can be by using the SDcafiine plugin, and putting the file here in each DS game's respective place in their sdcafiine folder. Though I prefer just making it permanent via ftp. That way it can forever work on any cfw that way without any plugin needed.

Frankly what might make the most sense is if someone made an app like the theme installer so that you could patch any DS game you have installed with these additional layouts via a simple homebrew app.
Alright sounds good and I love the last idea

Thanks for this. This is so much better than the standard layouts. Just a question. The names for me of each screen option does not show up for me. Why is that?

Is there a chance that you could add the following one: Touch screen Widescreen on both TV and Gamepad. There is one already but it's in 4:3.
Why widescreen you may ask? Because when running on a CRT the widescreen fills the entire screen.

It's already in there. Navigate to the touch screen on both displays option and then hit up or down on the d pad to see the similar options for that layout, in this case being widescreen on both displays, or if you hit up our down again, there is a pixel perfect option as well.

It's funny how many more screen options you probably didn't recognize are available here because each display has multiple alternate options to choose from with the d pad.

Ghost Trick [the game for which OP requested the layout in another thread] was not available on the official VC, but the compatibility page suggests using the European version with European Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. I have replaced the first layout with what you have requested:

No top screen anywhere
Touch screen completely fills both 1280x720 TV and 854x480 GamePad screens, and is therefore F A T.
[PixelArtUpscaler turned on. I don't think I've noticed the effect of this when I've tried it, but hopefully it will improve the non-integer scaling. Please let me know if this causes crashes and I'll update the file to turn it off.]

Ghost Trick is a 2D game, so the picture is necessarily going to look distorted. With 3D games, we can add a cheat code to squash a wider view into the 256x192 resolution, so the stretching we introduce will cancel out. This is much harder to do with 2D games. The Switch remake doesn't even support widescreen - they really want you to see only the original amount of the room.

You can remove the 'DoubleWideTouchscreen_' prefix and '.txt' suffix and replace the file either on the SD card if you use Loadiine, or through FTP if you've installed the game with WUP Installer.

Again, dual widescreen touch screens already exists in my provided file of 47 layouts: Navigate to the touch screen on both displays option and then hit up or down on the d pad to see the similar options for that layout, in this case being widescreen on both displays, or if you hit up or down again, there is a pixel perfect option as well.

Each display has multiple alternate options to choose from with the d pad, check them all out.

I hope you can help me out. Earlier in this thread you mentioned that these screen layouts can be applied both to VC and Loadiine. Up until now I've been using Loadiine and used your layouts. But recently I've switched to install the games using Phacox injector and then install the games as VC using WUP Installer. How do i transfer the layouts when installing the games on Wii U instead of using Loadiine?

try using uwuvci, and copy these into temp/rom (or something similarly named) folder of uwuvci after hitting inject, but before packing as wup

Ftp. There are a few apps but I forget which one is current and for tiramasu/aroma use.

Note you will need the title id of said games otherwise its a mission!

i think it is a bit more user friendly - i use phacox for the times where uwuvci doesn't work

Thanks a bunch! This method works fine! It took a little hassle to set up all the keys and stuff (something you dont need to worry about when using Loadiine) but it works!
Just a question regarding the icon artwork. Can I pick any cover art from the https://www.gametdb.com/ ?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.
