Hacking accidentally updated to 9.9. Gateway not working. What to do?

hello, i´ve buyed a gateway 3ds ultra. before i was on 4.5. Everything was working smooth.
i also backed up the emunand to sd card.
now my son have updated the firmware to 9.9.
this was my birthday present for him and now its not working anymore.

what should i do now?
is there any possibility to get a lower version?
its a old nintendo 3ds.
please give me a tip.

The easiest thing to do is following this guide and downgrade to 9.2:

You don't need to install A9HL, but I strongly recommand doing so.
When you installed A9HL, your son can update to the most recent firmware (11.2) and keep using his Gateway 3DS card.

After you install A9HL, you can follow this guide to use the gateway card again:

There was a part in the guide to downgrade to 9.2, but it's gone now since it isn't necessary any more.

Instead, follow the full guide, that's my first link to start with.
Than when this is successful, use my second link to make your Gateway card work again.

I know it takes some time but you will be better of after the process.
- You will be able to use your Gateway card on sysnand 11.2. That means you can use your gateway card on the newest version of the 3DS instead of 4.5 or 9.2!
- You will get the possibility to install games to your 3DS system (sd card) instead to the Gateway card.
- After taking a nand backup (this is one of the many steps in the guide), you will be able to restore the 3DS system in many cases.

I think he's talking about the Gateway Ultra era, where they cracked 9.2 and the new 3ds. Gateway was still the top dog back then before cfw took over.

Letting his son use Gateway sysNAND will guaranteed result in accidental updates, and Gateway has no FIRM protection which means he will lose A9LH or brick the console. Best stick to emuNAND.

Install A9LH + Luma and then opt for emunand setup. Seeing as he's handing his son a gateway, it's probably going to be used for piracy, so instead install freeshop or tikdevil bundled with that titlekeysite on emunand and let your kid have fun in freeshop/eshop. Again, ditch gateway, it's only going to be a bother.

That's not what I meant, I mean he could use his gateway while his system is on 11.2.
As in the Gateway card is now also compatible with 11.2 instead of 4.5-9.2.

The problem is not him but his son. He most probably already told him not to update sysNAND when they were on 4.5, and now they're on 9.9 so he did and would most probably do it again.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
A case like this where the OP's child already updated, they should stick a free CFW. What the OP should do, is install A9LH, update A9LH, then cram Luma3DS into the CTRNAND. That way the system is always safe to update.
Then sell the cart someone to make a few extra dollars.

Once you're done, we recommend ditching Gateway since it can cause more problems than it's worth, and CFW can do just about everything a Gateway can.
