Apparently, this patent is under Miyamotot's name, but if its old or new is beyond me!

Computer-readable storage medium having game program stored therein, and game apparatus

User saved-data storage means S19 stores user saved-data which is generated as a result of a game play performed by a user. Digest saved-data storage means S48 stores a plurality of pieces of digest saved-data which are previously generated so as to be associated with predetermined scenes, respectively, in a game. Game start means S14 starts the game process without using the user saved-data and the plurality of pieces of digest saved-data. Game resuming means S12, S13 starts the game process by using the user saved-data. Digest game start means S4 starts the game process by using any of the plurality of pieces of digest saved-data. Saving means S19 generates the user saved-data, only in the game process started by the game start means or the game resuming means.

So what exactly is this patent we're dealing with?

If it's an older patent, my guess would be the hard drive for the N64 (you know, that add-on they hyped up, and then never brought over to america?)

The Asian market tends to get a lot of fancy gadgets that the rest of the world won't (unless we pay a premium to import them, and in some cases they won't work unless we also import an Asian console). For example, one of the older gameboys had a sonar cartridge (!) with an attachment that you drop in the water to see where the fish are. And the PS2 had a headtracking 3D headset, which (from what I read) would work on an American PS2, but the head tracking and 3D was only supported by certain games so you'd have to import those too, if you wanted to get the full $500 worth out of it.

From what I understand, it's a hint system using movies to show you how to solve the puzzles. It also let's you skip through chapters so you can play any part of the game. Seems like a way to make the game more accessible to non-gamers while keeping the difficult for gamers looking for a challenge. Of course, it could be a patent that will never be used, and it could be using Zelda just as an example..
