I was a fan of the first NieR game and now I'm pretty excited to see what its follow up ,NieR:Automata will bring to the table. first off , the game is being developed by square enix and platinum games , a studio known for its over the top action games . NieR:Automata promises to be both the same and different from its predessesor
. it will be the same as the game before in the aspects that it will have:
Dark themes.
An open world that unfolds as the story progresses.
And its being worked on by the same character artist and composer.
Whats very different from the game before it . is the fact that it is in the very capable hands of Platinum games .
According to the games lead developer , the game is being worked on by the "younger generation " within platinum games , who wish to prove themselves through this game.
Set in the midst of a proxy war between machines created by otherworldly invaders and the remnants of humanity, the story follows the battles of combat android 2B, her companion 9S, and the obsolete prototype A2
Nier: Automata shares the post-apocalyptic setting of the original Nier, taking place after the game's fourth ending. While carrying over the Drakengard series' tradition of a dark atmosphere and branching storylines, no direct narrative connection is shared between Nier: Automata and the rest of the series. Set an unknown time after the events of Nier, the story revolves around a war between the remnants of humanity and the machine army of invaders from another world. The initial invasion forced humanity to flee to the Moon. Humanity eventually sends down combat androids dubbed "YoRHa" to fight the invaders in a proxy war. While denied emotions and lacking true names, they have particular attitudes that distinguish them from their fellows. The YoRHa are commanded from the Bunker, a reconnaissance base in orbit above Earth, and establish a self-sufficient Resistance on Earth to drive back the Machines.
Its combat style is a bit like Bayonettas . and has been described as "smooth and fluid".
during the game you take control of the android warrior 2B who fights alongside her ai companion 9S.
Actions and attacks are mapped to the controllers face buttons . jumping , dashing , light and heavy attacks can be executed with ease.
During a demo 2B was shown to have 2 sets of weapons .
A katana and a large sword .
And a katana with a pair of metal gloves for close up melee combat.
the world of Nier looks amazing . its richly detailed in every way . it just took my breath away when I watched a demo being played.
a bit long but worth watching
Square Enix has also announced a collaboration between FF XV and NieR . Protaginst 2B will receive the Engine blade , Noctis signature weapon .
the weapon will have an exclusive evasion effect .
Nier also recently received some screenshots which detail the in-game woodland area.
Deep in this area, you’ll find a giant old castle in ruins that has the lingering subtle scent of civilization. You’ll also come across remains of old living machines that once protected the castle.
The living machines that show up in this area are clad with armor with a Middle-Ages style.
the previous game also featured an ending in which the game deleted your save file . when asked about this . the answer was a sly "its a secret"
NieR: Automata releases in Japan on February 23, 2017 for PlayStation 4. North America and Europe will get the game for PS4 and PC sometime in early 2017.
