This is probably closer to the truth. Around 87% of people who got a free blu-ray movie with their PS3 whatched it.

I know many people that wanted Blue-ray and bought a PS3
Just compare prices with PS3 and Blue-ray players (Ps3 is half the price), PS3 is just the best solution for a Blue-ray player
It is way to expensive for a game player

Sounds kinda fishy to me.

1. The statement was released by Sony Corporation, so it can hardly be unbiased.
2. In several months following the PS3 release, every customer was able to apply for a free copy of the latest James Bond (on BD, of course).
3. If any other pools are to be believed, about a half (and even more) PS3 owners don't even own an HDTV - sure, it's not a reason why you couldn't watch BDs, but why the heck would you? It costs more and you gain nothing.
4. etc.

People, just because one company releases a statement praising it's product, it doesn't mean it's a fact. I'm not saying only Sony does it, the same could be said for Microsoft and Nintendo (but the latter hardly ever releases any info) and other companies, that aren't related to videogames at all.

Dude 399Euro($590.2, yes i know it cost $399) is too much for a game console

I watch 100% of Xvid/DivX movies using 360
I watch 100% of DVD movies using PS3 (Even though I own a 1080P upscaling DVD player, I think PS3 1080P upscaling is superior)
I own a 42" 1080P FHDTV
I own 1 BD movie title
I own no DVD movie title
I own 15 PS3 games

That easily summarizes to PS3 = cheap Blu-ray player, right?

I use mine for Blu-Ray playback... As soon as the prices come down for standalone players then ill stop and grab a reasonably priced standalone

How much what cost to buy? Im assuming that you are talking about the Blu-Ray films? The prices are starting to come down quite quickly now. Rush hour 3 was only £20 on release where I work, I also get 20% staff discount so it only cost £16! If in the UK check out www.zavvi.co.uk and click the blu-ray 3 for 2 as most of the top titles are included in that offer and most are only £17.95. £35.90 is a good price for 3 movies! And they also have free delivery!

They've already released a figure for how many people own a PS3. I can't remember but it's pretty high compared to say standalone HD-DVD players, which I think Toshiba includes the 360 addon, because it's considered a standalone i.e. you don't play games on it.

A couple weeks ago I saw a promotion on free PS3 when buying 40"+ XBR Bravia models, which cost like $1700+ to begin with, you need a Sony rewards card and have to claim the reward explicitly.
(Basically, 42" Sharp Aquos + PS3 separate is cheaper than 40" Bravia alone so that really isn't a deal, since Bravia is overpriced to begin with)
If they got one without all the trouble, then I have to say wow to Sony.
