If you're looking to add custom audio, brawlcustommusic has a .bcstm exporter option, so you can use that to add custom audio to your shiny themes.

Thanks! But the program crashes each time i attempt to open it. Do you know why that may be?

I open the 3DS_ThemeEditor tool, then click file-->Open-->Select body_LZ.bin

It then takes a second, then comes up with this

I'm also having this same problem. I ran the .dat file, opened up the program, selected the body_LZ.bin file, and it immediately crashes the program. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Side-question here: Since it's now technically possible to import Japanese and Europe themes and get them working on a US 3DS, what's the process? Open up a .cia through makerom, dump all the theme files into the Theme Editor and then just drag and drop the theme file onto an SD card and install the theme through Ninjhax?

I'm retarded and a some what noob when it comes to homebrew would it be to much to ask for a quick tut on installing a custom theme with Ninjahax/gateway?

  1. Download the homebrew tool at https://github.com/yellows8/3ds_homemenu_extdatatool/releases.
  2. Extract 3ds_homemenu_extdatatool to your SD card, under the 3ds directory where your homebrew is.
  3. Download a theme (should be a .bin extension) and name it as body_LZ.bin.
  4. Put this file in the 3ds_homemenu_extdatatool directory.
  5. Enable a premium theme on your home menu (one that's been downloaded from the theme shop, can be free)
  6. Open the homebrew launcher and launch the 3DS Extdata tool.
  7. Press Copy Extdata to SD, Enable Theme-Cache, and Copy Theme Cache from SD to Extdata. The first option backs up your extdata, so that you do not lose it.
  8. Your new theme should be visible upon next reboot!

Thanks! I'll try this, one quick question does this replace your default theme from eshop? If so can you get this theme back?

I am not too sure, as I haven't tried it out yet. If you back up your extdata, like I suggested in step seven, then I am 99% sure you can revert back to your previous theme.

Cool! This might seam a a stupid question but if I download a theme from the EUR does that mean its compatible with the U version 3DS?

Works for me, to bad it goes back to normal the second you close your 3ds. At least we know cool things like this can be done with just ninjhax.

I'm going to set up a LoZ TP theme with music from the game with this, hopefully there is/will be a way to make it stick. (and fix the depth problem, everything looks flattened in 3d)

Tell me if you ever fix it. I'd love to make some themes :(

Can someone please link a theme I can test with this (I'm too lazy to find one and I'm scared of bricking if I install the wrong one or something)
EDIT: nvm

It's not working for me.... I downloaded the Super Mario Bros 3 theme, renamed it to body_LZ and put it in the 3ds_homemenu_extdatatool folder. When I run it it says Failed to open theme extdata with extdataID=0x000002cd retval: 0xc8804464, what's going on?

name it body_LZ.bin, put it in the folder with the .3dsx file (i think thats the folder you mentioned), start the program in the hbmenu, go to the "sd to ______ (i dont have my 3ds on me)" option and click it, then the 'enable themes' option, press b, press start once youre on the hbmenu, press A to restart, TADA! you now have a theme set. It should remain there till you manually change it, even if you turn your 3DS off :)

sorry for making that a mess. As I said, I dont have my 3DS on me, so this is all being written shorthand.

try another theme if you cant get that one to work, but follow the steps i gave you.

Here's an actual bin file for whoever wanted one. Put it in the same folder as the 3dsx, "Enable theme-cache", "copy theme from ext data to sd card"

press b and exit the app, exit the homebrew loader through pressing start+select.

It's the LoZ theme that was posted earlier in this thread.
