The latest FW is 10.5, and yes gateway does support emuNAND 10.5
Look at it like this: Emunand is a copy of your sysnand, your original system. REINAND is Custom FirmWare (CFW) which runs on your Emunand. Every CFW runs on Emunand but not every CFW is REINAND. There is also Cakes and Rxtools. Reinand is for n3ds only, rxtools is for o3ds only. Don't know about Cakes though. Reinand let's you install (illegal) cia's, which are games.
reiNAND is a CFW(Custom Firmware), which basically you use to access emuNAND through, and do lots of other cool stuff
There are other types of CFWs, like rxTools and CakesFW, reiNAND is just one of them. emuNAND is an exact copy of your sysNAND which can be exploited through various means without any risk(if emuNAND gets bricked, you can inject a previously backed up copy of it, however this isn't possible in sysNAND. If your sysNAND gets bricked, then you have to get it hard-modded).

actually there is a reinand mod for o3ds
and n3ds can use rxtools as well (its just incomplete on n3ds)
and cakes can be used on either n3ds or o3ds (originally it was o3ds only i believe)
How do you install VC/GBA titles on RXtools 3? I keep getting Error message and have to turn of the 3DS

sorry you cant make a nand backup above 9.2 as the exploit that lets you access the nand is patched on fw 9.3 and above
theoretically . . . a modified program could be created to allow nand backups on fw's 10.3 or lower . . . theoretically

Hi guys, I'm trying to get into the 3DS (and back into the DS) carts. Now, I already seem to have the latest version (10.5), which, if I understood correctly, makes it better for me to get a Sky3DS, because the Gateway is 9.2 limited, correct? If that's the case, I don't have an issue with that, since I just want to simply run 3DS games and, possibly, play online, although it's not mandatory.
Your only option is using Sky3DS+ since you can only use gateway (and custom firmware) when at 9.2 or lower. You can use the sky card with.3ds files BUT if you want to play online, you'll need a private header in order to not risk getting banned. You can buy a private header (risky) or get one yourself with a physical cartridge and power saves. You can also use public headers but as I mentioned, that will risk you getting banned.
Absolutely no way using software. Maybe you're lucky and they'll find an exploit making it able for you to downgrade, like it was on 10.3, but don't count on that. If you want to play (illegal) games your best bet is going to Sky3ds+ as they have support for every firmware up to date.
Edit; you can "risk" it and go find someone to hard mod the device for you. This has a greater bricking chance however. I would strongly suggest not trying it yourself if you don't have any soldering experience and/or a steady hand.

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
