Does CFW support these?
region-free
online play
patching games or dlc
e-shop

What are the benefits of CFW over Sky? (other than the price point and eShop gameZ)

Just bought an O3DS which comes with 4.4.0 firmware. Tried following the guides but the web browser keeps saying it needs an access point.

I thought if I connected to the internet, I will end up getting the update nag message?

You'll only get the nag if you close the DS while connected to the Internet. Closing the DS without Internet, or leaving the DS open with Internet will not get you the nag.

Is there any way to use the eShop on a 10.3.0-28E n3DS?

You'll need to downgrade first if you plan to use, or are using CFW.

Yes, CFW gives you all of that.

You should be asking what benifit Sky has over CFW. IIRC, sky can be used above 9.2 (excluding downgrade advantages). but if you are on 9.2, use CFW

I set menuhax to boot CTRBooter on launch instead of sysNAND, and for sysNAND to launch when I hold select on boot. For some reason, after it autoloads to CTRBooter and I select cakes, it acts like it's going to launch cakes CFW but then goes and launches CTRBooter within itself. And then if I select cakes again my 3DS crashes.

Does anybody know how to fix this? It only happens when I set menuhax to autoboot and launch sysNAND on a specific key. If I delete the menuhax padcfg.bin file, it goes back to holding L to launch menuhax and cakes loads emuNANd again.

I have a question regarding coldbooting into Gateway Emunand (via GW.3dsx):

I have sysnand 9.0 and GW Emunand 10.4 (using the latest GW 3.7.1). I want to be able to coldboot into Gateway Emunand, and I believe I need to install the homebrew channel to do this? I am confused by this process. Can anyone let me know the steps I need to take? Thank you!

You need MenuHax and CTRBootManager. Install MenuHax with the MenuHax Manager app that comes with the starter kit, then set a trigger type like type 2 for example, hold R and then touch the touchscreen. Now MenuHax will trigger on coldboot, now you download CTRBootManager and put it's .3dsx file on the root of your SD card and rename it to boot.3dsx, rename the Homebrew Launcher to bhbl.3dsx - then make a boot.cfg file in your SD root where you specify your options, here's mine for example.
You can copy that and remove the paths you don't want.

Alright so I've been following this guide:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...g-10-4-emunand-coldboot-cia-installer.405589/

I'm at the part where I have my sysNAND and emuNAND unlinked, and I rebuilt my database again for emuNAND (or at least I think it's emuNAND). Then I've extracted the CFW to the root of my sdcard, turned on my n3DS, changed my theme, and when it asks me to rebuild my database again, the n3DS doesn't see the need to do that. Have I messed up somehow? Am I on emuNAND or sysNAND? Did I rebuild my database on sysNAND first when it should have been emuNAND?

EDIT: Actually maybe the guide did not ask me to rebuild my database just yet, so I guess I rebuilt my database on sysNAND, not emuNAND, and I can proceed as normal then?

proceed at normal. it just you may or may not have to rebuild database, not always.

I'm a little confused as to what I'll be doing in sysnand and what I'll be doing in emunand. Thanks for the help.

Do you mean in general? If so, you're never going to be using SysNand unless you wanna play DS and GBA games or whatever. You'll be doing everything in EmuNAND. However, these steps I mentioned are all done in SysNAND, since you're gonna have MenuHax in SysNAND.

Not exactly a noob but I've been out of the scene for over a year and all the new is overwhelming. I have an o3ds on 4.2 and used Smash to upgrade it to 8.1. I've been trying to install cfw but no matter how I look at it I seem to need a firmware with theme support and is also exploitable. I have been looking for a way to get this o3ds to either 9.0 or 9.2. From what I can gather the only way to do that is to somehow upgrade to a firmware between 9.3 and 10.3 and downgrade to 9.2. I haven't been able to find a way to upgrade straight to the firmware. I have access to a Gateway if that makes anything easier. Thank you in advance!

Okay so while in emuNAND on 10.4 I installed the super smash bros cia and installed the required update for online play. After the fact and before try to play the game I'm realizing that may have been stupid. Could I get banned or what's at risk? Should I uninstall something or is it safe to play online? Thanks.
