Okok what do you mean did I create it? Isn't just going into gateway where you are able to play the 3ds roms in the Emu NAND? I've seen many people who just enter gateway and go into settings and they see the GW version

That's the problem when I go to gateway and go into the settings I don't see GW it's the ds version
Ok I looked back a page and read your previous post. Although you are likely in emunand the consensus is it is not safe to update emunand until we can verify we are there in system settings.

1. do you have a sysnand backup created from the GW menu?
2. Do you have an emunand backup using an imaging tool or emunand tool?
3. Have you copied GW 3.2 launcher to the Sd card?

Emunand is a copy of sysnand you create on the SD. From the blue gateway menu to the right is an option"format emunand". When this is created GW will boot to this virtual nand instead of sysnand thus protecting your sysnand. If an Emuand has not been created or "formatted" when you boot gateway mode you will be in sysnand but running gateway mode (all the neat tricks like rom loading and fw puffing are enabled).

So the question is when you set up your system initially did you "format"/create an Emuand? If you did you update that Emuand online through system settings or another method such as a rom?

it's a bit tricky.
'gw mode' is simply when you activate gw, and the games you download work etc.
'emunand' is if you, in the gw launcher menu, use 'format emunand'. this will make a copy of your 3ds system to your sd card. this means you can update the 3ds system on your sd card, because the real system (sysnand) is still on the old, hackable fw.
once you have made an emunand, you will always enter it, once you activate gw mode.
if you do not have emunand, when you activate gw mode, you will simply be in sysnand. if you update that, you will not be able to use your gw anymore.
when you turn your 3ds on, you are in fw 9.2?

I've backed up my something called NAND onto my computer and I've copied over the new launcher. Dat into my SD card but I don't know what step 2 is

Kayleen - a little way to check if you really have an emunand is this.
your 3ds is off. turn it on. make the home menu icons as big as they can go :)
then, as normal, activate the gw. you will enter gw mode.
if you do not have an emunand, the icon size will be the same, really big.
if you DO have emunand, the icon size in emunand has not been changed (you changed it in sysnand only)

Kayleen - ok, if you are sure, that means you don't have emunand :) no problem. (good you did not update ha)

when you create emunand, it wipes everything from your sd card... (apart from the launcher.dat)
before you create emunand (by doing 'format emunand' in the gw menu - hold L to enter the menu when you activate gw) -- before you create emunand, COPY the stuff thagt is on your sd card to your computer.

after you have created emunand (it will take about 10 minutes maybe) - power down your 3ds.
put the stuff back on your sd card. :)
you are done.

then you can prove to yourself that you really have an emunand.
when you turn on your 3ds, make the icons really big/really small.
when you activate gw mode, you will be taken to emunand, and the icons will be the same size as when you created the emunand :) you can go to the system settings and then update.

keep in mind, when ever you leave system settings, you will leave emunand/gw mode.
so once you go to system settings, do not exit thinking you will return to emunand. that is dangerous, because you might update sysnand by accident.

Anyone know of a consistently updated noob friendly thread for all things gateway/sky3DS/3DS flashcart? an index thread if you will. I've left the gateway scene since the hype of '14 and 4 months later find myself attracted to an unfamiliar world.

I am sure it is due to the language barrier but I don't understand your comment.

Unfortunately not. I saw something a mont or so ago that covered a lot of the basics but I don't think it got stickied.

If you are on a n3ds and unfamiliar with the current goings on I suggest holding off on 3.2 for a few days and and see where the dust settles. It would appear at least one issue is a rather poor guide provided by gateway.

What areas are you interested in exploring?

Is there any way to update the browser without a flashcart? I have a version 4.1 3ds that gives an "The internet browser will be available once you update your system via internet" when I open the browser.

Im trying to hack the 3ds without a flashcart (I have no access to any) but the browser wont open for me to access the Gateway site.

Does New 3DS force updates in the background, or am I OK to leave it on standby?
New 3ds does not force an update. Acts just like the old 3ds.

Also, I keep hearing people talk about CIA files but I don't see a guide anywhere. I would've thought there'd be a sticky for something like that. Can anybody point me to one?

Edit: By guide I mean a guide to set up the 3ds (I have the old XL) to be able to use cia files.
