I was using BigBlueMenu and was able to install one of my backups but when installing the second backup .cia with bigbluemenu I started to get problems (freezing in bigbluemenu, unable to uninstall .cia or run the installed one), so I reverted back to my bakcup nand and am currently on 4.5.0-9u with no cfw installed and no emunand.

I have yet to install the Ninjhax explot on the the n3ds.

If anyone could point me out some things it would be great, thanks!

You can't run "backups" on the n3ds without a gateway/sky*

As far as the 4.x CFW for the original 3ds, you might consider trying FBI and seeing if it works any better. That CFW is unstable though so it might be that nothing works too well.

* The only exceptions are the "signed" cias, for -U consoles they include:

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire - File size : 1.77 Go, Credits to miron for the ticket and Hundshamer for the CIA file
Pokemon Omega Ruby - File size : 1.77 Go, Credits to bbmax
Pokemon X - File size : 1.68 Go, Credits to ddshoko
Pokemon Y - File size : 1.68 Go, Credits to damysteryman
Animal Crossing New Leaf - File size : 739.7 Mo, Credits to 87agyisbhdk
Fire Emblem Awakening - File size : 1.05 Go, Credits to Jefffisher
Luigi's Mansion 2 - File size : 842.8 Mo, Credits to Jefffisher
Mario Kart 7 - File size : 634.3 Mo, Credits to Pyorin (Update 1.1 is preinstalled, so you can play online right away.)
Mario & Luigi Dream Team - File size : 824.0 Mo, Credits to Anonymous (OP: 87agyisbhdk)
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - File size : 2.54 Go, Credits to Jefffisher
New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gold Edition - File size : 340.9 Mo, Credits to Pyorin('s sister)
Super Mario 3D Land - File size : 389.4 Mo, Credits to Ryulejzzu

You were told when formatting emunand that all data on the SD card would be deleted, right?

You can try using NTR to access the eshop on your 9.2 sysnand and see if it is available to re-download: http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-s...eshop-and-more-on-new-3ds-and-old-3ds.386591/

Or, luckily in your case the monster hunter game is one of the few that has been dumped as a signed cia - you can just download it and install it to sysnand using ninjhax + FBI. Or install to emunand using whatever cia installer you prefer.

One more question oishikatta, since monster hunter have a generic ticket, if i put the game folder from the sysnand in the new folder of the emunand (inside the 3ds folder) will it work or ir have to be installed as a CIA? Any monster hunter cia will work or it has to be a specific one?

Thanks Oishikatta. I was able to get Ocarina of Time .cia to work, then tried star fox and then that's where the trouble started.

I don't see Ocarina of Time on the list wonder why it worked ?

This list of Signed games you posted, I'm guessing if you install these to sysnand they will run fine ?

Are there any cfw in the works that will be similar to paladin (less buggy) with the support for homebrew as well ? I've read a bit up on rxtools but I seems that this will not have backup support.

Again thanks for the quick reply!

It has to be a specific one, that's referred to as any of "signed", "legit", "legal", "perfect".

I'm not sure on your other question. If your nands are linked then installing that particular cia to either should work for both (since you already had the ticket when you created emunand).

For the original 3DS CFW you can use pretty much any game that doesn't require the 7.x stuff.

For the new 3DS there is no public way to install and run games outside of that list excluding gateway/sky. I think there will inevitably be one within the next few months though, and that's really rather sad. Would not like to see the N3DS killed so early into its lifespan.

Oishikatta, would you recommend un-linking your nands ?

Thank you very much for your help! I guess I'll have to try out FBI with Paladin and see if i get any other success. I'm guessing there is no way to run hombrew in paladin ? Probably better to use my N3ds with cubic ninja or rxtools (when he releases homebrew compatibility) for homebrew instead ?

Is there any word on when rxtools will be able to run on n3ds?

Anybody know the proper way to unlink sysnand and emunand ?

I currently have palatin cfw installed and I tried follwoing this process but now I can't boot into palatin from system setting -> Other settings -> profile -> (hold L) nintendo DS profile. It doesn't flash or anything just goes to the nintendo ds profile screen. I installed palatin tested that i could get in (booted into the cfw fine) then followed this method with no luck ( no .cia's were installed or anything) :

1)boot sysnand
2)remove 3ds big sd card
3)format system memory
4)do the whole process of setting up 3ds as it was like running for 1st time
5)inserted 3ds sd card and let it creat homemenu stuff

Any ideas? Thanks!

1. For header patching, i need a header extracted from a cartbridge, and all that matters is the first line for tue uniqueID, right? Like, i can edit the second line to fit the game i'm patching?
2. Can i rename a .3ds to .3dz without patching to header to play it offline while i don't have a valid header, then patch the header to play online and keep the save?

Hi everyone!

I managed to update my Gateway cart (just came today!) for my N3DSXL, unlinked NANDs, and got the DS profile exploit working (yay!)

My Emunand is on 9.0, and I assume I should update it for.. features and things? I haven't had a DS since the Lite.

Soo, my question is: how do I find out which emunand version is safe to update to? How do I apply said update, since I assume an online update will go to the newest (unsupported?) firmware.

Many thanks! :)

I was able to change my rednand region from US to EUR, but when I boot to rxtools it doesnt detect the emunand, BTW The sd memory was made using an Image I had with the CFW and rednand on it. as the whole process to do it from scratch is a pain in the a**, specially the part to boot using the L to install the devmenu it never works or it freezes, I hope someone can help me with this.

No you don't need to reinstall. If hands remain linked you will need to unwrap. I have formatted my sysnand many times, it is fine.

1. Sorry I have not messed with headers, all my online games are installed as cia, much easier.
2. You can change the name without any problems.

You have studied well :)

You don't really need to update past 9.0 at the present time except for maybe amiibo support. There are several ways to do this the easiest is to use a rom such as Xenoblade that has 9.4. When booting to gateway mode hold up on d pad and that will disable the update block. Select the rom from the multi rom menu and update. Then reboot to be safe. 3ds.essh.co lists what Fw each rom has. Bookmark that site as it has lots of useful information on your roms you may need down the road. Do not go past 9.5 on emunand.

rich6619, archangelnew Friends don't let friends do Palantine. :) I have no experience with it. Sorry I can't help.

With a NAND Mod , could you downgrade from 9.5 to 9.2 sysNAND?
Yes, that is what it is for. Provided of course you made a nand backup of that specific console prior to it upgrading to 9.5

If not your best option is to sell it and get an exploitable 3ds, otherwise you are stuck using a sky.

Edit don't want to risk it since I finally swapped my sd. How does one go about transferring cia saves from a previous sd card? Copy and paste the .sav? Or is the cia save in the system memory?

Thank you for the great reply! That is exactly the info I was looking for - and I have bookmarked that site.

Just one more I think - I had read before when I was waiting for my flash cart, that you should enter bogus disabled wifi profiles in sysnand to block it from the internet, and that emunand would have a different set of profiles. This doesn't seem to be true for the New 3DS, my "disabled" profiles fed through despite the unlinked nands (different icons and theme confirmed it for me). So is it safe for me to connect to the internet on emunand so I can visit the eshop, hook up my nintendo account and all that? Should I disable it again after using eshop or whatever? I am unclear as to if having a valid wifi profile might automatically update my sysnand (say if it rebooted in the middle of the night?). And to answer your question: Yes, I made a sysnand backup and moved it to my PC :D

Sorry for all the text! Thanks for your assist :)

Your internet profiles should be different although I worked with a member the other day who had the same problem. Do this. Clear the slots out on both emunand and sysnand. Set up a real one and 2 dummies on sysnand. Reboot and check them on emunand. Then go back and just change the last character of password field on sysnand real one. Now it is a "dummy" but easy to use if you need it. Do the same on emunand.
You will only get the update if you access the eshop or put the system in sleep mode. With an active connection. Make a habit of turning wireless communications off on the home menu.

If the sysnand still carries over take a look at your Nintendo 3ds folder on the ad card and verify that there are two random character folders and not just one.

Warning. Even with dummy connections if wifi is enabled you can get the update if you are near a Nintendo Zone or ATT hotspot. Happened to me at a hotel awhile back. Sneaky Nintendo.

I checked, and I must be on something because yeah, the wifi profiles are seperate between the sysnand and emunand. Weird. I tried connecting on emunand to look at the eshop, and it told me I had to update first.. I backed out and got ready for work (did not disable wifi) and when I checked just now, it said there was an update ready. Pushy! So I just told it not to...

So 1: Can I not access eshop?
2: If we have to make a habit to keep wifi off, this means no Streetpass right?

Sorry I forgot to mention no eshop (see below). What happens is you put emunand into sleep mode with wifi on. You downloaded the update and it will nag you once a day to update. You have a new system with nothing really installed on it correct? If so, in emunand go to system settings and format emunand,Mathis will wipe the update. You will need to run through the initial setup again, nickname, age, region etc.

Yes this means no streetpass. If that is a problem for you then just realize you are going to have that update nag in emunand (I do) and to be careful who you let touch the thing. (99% of the time they will say yes). Also make sure you keep backups of your emunand/mSD card so if it does get updated you can reinstall your backup. In practicality few are able to remember to turn off wifi before shutting the lid and it doesn't take long for Nintendo to push the update to you. It was a bit easier with the o3ds and the wifi switch.

If you get the update nag in sysnand you can format it (without mSD card slotted) or there is a button combo that will take you to recovery mode and you can fix it there. (See tutorials section).
Regarding eshop. You have two options. 1. Get everything you need from the "other" site and install it as cia. (How I have been doing it). 2. There is a new fw spoof method that will get you in eshop. [How-to] Spoof firmware (to access eShop and more) on New 3DS and Old 3DS
