OMG! My Steam and EGS library are only 40ish games. How do you plan to finish them? I now mostly play on my New 3ds and Android phone (many great pc, handheld, and console ports). Marathoning Zelda, Metroid, Wario, DK, Yoshi, and Kirby series now.

Buying old games is a pretty solid investment these days in most cases, as long as your not buying bi-annual EA sports trash it's unlikely to have been a waste of money.
I bought the original SMB, SML and SMW in japan last year and I can't play them even if I wanted to, and as they stand I like the fact they're on my shelf as part of my gaming history, albeit different versions of the games I originally owned back in the day. They also serve as a memento of those awesome shops in Tokyo where I bought em.

Bahamas, The
just look at it once and then put it in your draw, storage, collection and never play it or use it again?

I guess only you can answer that question, is owning the games worth more to you than owning the money?

I don't think collecting stuff you will never use is any different from hoarding, not saying it's a bad thing, if you enjoy collecting for the sake of collecting that's just a hobby like any other, although then there is the issue of "consumerism", wasting resources and creating waste and landfill but that's a whole other rabbit hole and it doesn't apply to buying used products I guess..

most of the games i have happen to be arcade "occasionally pick up and play" kind of games, so there's not really much finishing them, but the others, i'm only 23 i have the rest of my life to finish them

I largely think of myself as a game collector than a game player, because I buy a lot of games, but I don't play most of them. I wrote a blog about this problem, the inability to play new games. I was playing bravely default 2, and I got to the point where you're introduced to the card game at about 14 hours. I haven't played it since. the tutorial for it was terrible, and I don't understand the card game at all. after that, I started playing wonder boy, but man does that game seem short. I'm not sure if you can go back to previous stages either, so I've been keeping several saves at the beginning of each area. anyway, I have alex kidd preordered, and it's going to be released tomorrow. I'm hoping that can keep me interested. I'm usually just playing the same games over and over again on the wii u, because they're like my comfort games, or posting on here, or watching one of the many star trek marathons on tv. that's essentially my day. ;)

I love big collector's editions of games, with cool stuff. Steelbooks, figures, etc. It can easily feel like it was a bit of a waste when I consider the money I could have saved by just buying the regular game or just not buying anything at all, but those things on my shelves make me happy, so I guess it's all good.

I wouldn't have the room for a big collection. I have four retail games for the ps4, and they're just on some shelves wherever they fit. in fact, one of the cases is underneath my battery charger. I always put my charger on my bed when charging batteries, since the charger is hard to get to. I do collect controllers even with limited space. I have like 10 360 controllers (all different with all white rings of light to go with the white ring of light on my 360), all 4 main switch pro controllers, all character, gamecube controllers for smash, and all character controllers for the wii (I usually play with the mario or luigi ones).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

@Hayato213 , I'm going to try the princess controller today once I get home from my doctor's appointment. I just checked, and it is synced to my wii u as it turned it on. I'm surprised the batteries still had a charge. I'm charging them now, on my bed of course. :P

Oh yeah, I totally collect amiibos and don't open them. I've only opened my animal crossing ones because they're very common ones. But I have both sets of Splatoon idols, as well as the Octo Expansion 3-pack completely unopened, and now their prices are ridiculous.
Guess I should clarify, the one amiibo I bought was pre-owned so it didn't come with any packaging. I totally understand keeping those things as collectors' items, but I'm not sure I'd want one just sitting in the box. Also, it was K.K. Slider so I would've had to buy the 3-pack.

I collect amiibos too. I bought one opened amiibo (have an unopened version of it) and that was wedding bowser one just to find purple coins in odyssey. I found them all with it. :D. Anyway, I paid a scalper's price for the Skyward sword amiibo. I missed when it went on sale. :(

Spending money for collecting video games, consoles or gaming related stuff is not a waste of money.
I believe collection in any kind or form like luxury watches, bags, cars, etc. is an investment especially rare limited releases. Of course, there are other and better ways to invest money but it's up to the person's financial situation, hobbies, interests, etc.
Hoarding on the other hand is a waste of money, anyone can hoard trash which is worth nothing.

I did it! 99 lives with all kong letters obtained. 4-3's O is probably the hardest kong letter in the game to get without dying. I did it all without dying, and with that princess controller just like I said I would @Hayato213 . ;)
