The Nintendo Switch has overtaken the 3DS in terms of sales

'.jpg

This time last year, the Nintendo Switch had just surpassed the sales numbers of both the Super Nintendo and the Xbox One, having secured itself 52 million total units sold. Now, as of the latest fiscal update, the Switch has just barely beaten out the Nintendo 3DS. The latter attained 75.94 million sales throughout its lifespan, with 385.85 million software sales. By comparison, the Switch has reached 79.87 million hardware sales, and 532.34 million games sold. Game sales for the platform increased year-over-year, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons managing 31.18 million sales in less than a year since its launch, while the limited-time exclusive compilation Super Mario 3D All-Stars hit over 8 million sales.

Well at least it doesn't require one to use convoluted, not to mention, risky means to modding a console for once. And officially emulated too. Not like people are forced to buy games *shrug*
I mean, I bought it regardless. But limited timed physical/digital availability and a lazy port job shouldn’t be cheered for. That Super Mario 64 release looks pathetic compared to the fanmade one. Nintendo can get away with the laziest possible option though. It’s acceptable, but it’s also the bare minimum.

Yes, the limited thing is BS, makes no sense at all and honestly, makes me feel better about pirating all their old stuff (yeah, I don't care what they say). Mario 64 looks fine as fanmade project, but I'm not too keen on the new Mario model, it doesn't look right in the old 3D worlds.

Seems like continuing down the Switch path would be smart for Nintendo, its proven to be a lucrative and desired concept and no big player is directly competing with the model, so just treat it like the Game Boy by making more of the same device, but making them more powerful as technology advances and that should continue to be a successful endeavor for the foreseeable future.

the switch might have better success against piracy if they had some sort of achievement system. that's the reason I'm thinking about buying a legit superslim ps3 and some games. I didn't care for trophies before, but I have virtually 0 at the moment. I know a lot of people would go legit with some sort of achievement system, because they game for them and are afraid of an account banning. I don't plan to buy another ps4, but I might buy a ps5 once they come down in price.
it would have better success against piracy if they got advice from Sony and Microsoft, i mean, so far they've done well, with the switch lite and mariko only being modable through a hardmod, as someone that 100%s most Nintendo games, it wouldn't effect me, the online was what made me budge, as i very much wanted to play smm2.

This is not surprising at all. Although I love 3DS and its concept and games, one must admit that the Switch is a fine console. This also means that people are doing well financially (or not). But here are the results.

And we all know that, in the end, Covid-19 has also played a big part in this, as people are spending more time at home and went crazy about getting a console to shut up their kids or even to themselves. And there's plenty of households with more than one console.

Wackest console Nintendo have put out for quite a while and this comes from someone who bought a Wii U.

Everything about it from the lazy ports to the build quality (especially the crappy build quality, eughck!) just scream "Low effort cash grab" even more than Nintendo usually do. Its like they're not even trying to hide it now.
Hopefully the proper version of the console will be a DS>DSL leap of quality in all aspects as this is the worst showing Nintendo have had for a while...

...and yet it prints money.

I hope they start porting 3DS titles to the Switch.

Hard to happen because the 3DS used a dual screen and the Switch does not. You basically need to rework the whole game save for those that did not really use the botton screen.

Some 3DS games however do have Switch ports, like Captain Toad. But Captain Toad also had a Wii U version.

EDIT: Wanna Bet 3 Zelda games on one will be ported to the Switch?
