I emailed an admin from mod3dscards. They told me their new site url as well. If anyone wants to know so they can log in and check their orders or purchase. Message me and I'll give you the url. Not sure if I should post here.

Both Lite and Core are now marked as sold out at ******. Hopefully those who managed to place the order will receive theirs
Yeah I've ordered from their site in the beginning of May and tried contacting them by their site's form, e-mail and even facebook page and I haven't received any word from them so far... I hope at least that if things go south, refunds are still an option...

Yeah, bought from them at april 14. And nothing going on, first they shutdown their whatsapp, and now they even did not answer to mails. I started to think , that this is scam, but wait, i made a payment through paypal...

They are one of team-xecuter authorized resellers... I bought from them with this in mind. I don't think it's a scam based on this.

I can't undestand why people preorder.. you're gonna wait more or less the same time as a normal buyer

The only thing you're gonna be first in is in having less bucks in your account

i dont know much about chinese law. however i do know the chinese goverment makes the decisions.

tennent released the switch with nintendo in china. now i do know tennent is like 1000x bigger then the guys who produce the modchip. so tennent can easily find out who is all behind it in taiwan, china. now who would you think the chinese goverment would back up. tennent or some modchip makers in china? not to mention because of covid-19 and china already in a rough spot worldwide. it would look really bad that china would support a modchip maker over nintendo. sure the chinese dont really like the japanese people, but i can imagine they really dont care much about some modchip maker / specially if tennent has a deal with nintendo.

Nintendo can't do anything.. this chip is a hardware piece and the buyers are the owners of the switch hardware, they can do anything they like with it, as long as they don't use the software.

My point is nintendo can't, at any way, stop the production and the sale of the chip because if you only want to load homebrew you have right to do it, the hardware is yours, you paid for it. You don't really need to use or modify nintendo's software for booting Android, for instance.

The rumors always been are the factory is in Taiwan. As you know Mainland China don't have any power there.

You are not even good at trolling my guy.....maybe try a little harder at something in your life. There are plenty of videos out now that prove the chips are real and do in fact work. You should leave your moms basement once in a while instead of looking for attention on the internet. Plenty of people have also got their refunds......

ah yes that makes sense. although i can imagine tecent has connections in taiwan, they could easily find out were the factory is located. if they can do anything else. that i have no idea.

What did they do to rip you off? You lose a bunch of money or something? Just wondering...

No. Uberchips went down, and owner said he was gonna refund people. He's still refunding people but SoulOfGazza is impatient. He even made a post about uberchips and encouraged people here to harass the owner of uberchips.

So, based on what we know about the form factor and size of the core and lite, what approach will you guys be taking to fit them?

I'm thinking of choices such as...

Standard solder or solder paste?
Remove the mainboard or leave it installed?
Thermal paste preference.
etc.

I'm feeling confident that I can make a decent job of it. My main concern is soldering to the two caps/resistors just below the die. They look tiny.

I'm considering using solder paste as I find it easier to work with and apply, though I'll practice on some scrap boards first. Anyone have any experience of using solder paste with this kind of installation?

Flux should make things much easier. Also get the thinnest solder you can buy. 0.5 or 0.6.
You can do this with the mainboard on. Removing it would be overkill but if you are comfortable with it, suit yourself.
I'd use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, Arctic MX-4 or Mastergel. Just a good, regular, nonconductive thermal compound.

And get a magnifying glass with built in light and the smallest iron tip possible. Some may not need it, but it's still very good to have.

p.s. I'm talking about Core. The Lite I wouldn't try to do myself.

This is pretty much the perfect answer. Get some thin solder like 0.5mm and flux. For the thermal paste, I'd personally go with MX-4. It's cheaper, spreads well, non-conductive and Arctic guarantees it maintains performance for over 8 years once applied, so no need to worry about opening the Switch again to replace it. It may not offer quite the same performance of the Kryonaut or Mastergel, but it's still pretty good and the Tegra X1 on the Switch is a low TDP part anyway.

About how to do the soldering, I'm thinking of pre-tinning the pads both on the Switch and on the SX, positioning them, applying flux and then retouching the contacts so the solder flows into place. Practicing on scrap boards is definitely important here. I'm not 100% sure about it though, without having the board on hand, so if anyone can suggest a better method, I'd be really grateful.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
