Compared to the 2018 Version very impressive Progress.Really great ! :bow:

And I can "play" your Game (on EASY).It is challenging but playable for me (you know my "Troubles" with your Asteroid Game...:rofl2:).

@alexander1970 When I designed this game in 2018 I wanted to make a game that involved no shooting at all so I came up with the concept of escaping from a great explosion. I had planned to put an exposion behind the player that slowly chased you but that idea never came to reality. The first 4 stages are easy so that the player is comfortable with flying the ship.

Now that I have most things in the game engine settled. The problem now is needing to think up more "obstacles" to put into the game. Since its a pure dodging game with no shooting I am going to need a lot of examples of obstacles. I came up with 2 last night. Here is an example of one below, I call this new one the rainbow tunnel.

I have been watching starfox videos on yt and there is a section near the end of the hard route where you have these horizontal columns moving up and down inside a tunnel. You have to carefully decide if you are going to go high or low to avoid crashing. Of course I have to add these - I have to ADD EVERYTHING!

Beta updated.

Changes;
* each difficulty has different stages. (might change this to make them all the same)
* 5 hearts on easy, 3 on normal and 2 on hard.
* each stage is 35 seconds long. 20 stages to complete the game.
* hard difficulty has no training missions at the beginning.

Things to do;
* I need a indicator to tell the player when they have gone too far off the edge of the play field.
* add more obstacles.
* add a sound effect for the ship engine + boost.

Hey hope you all are doing well, middle of the week, working from home but spent most of the day updating the newoescape beta ;
Things fixed/changed;
  • Music should loop properly now and switch every level. Still 3 tracks from resister anthems by eric.
  • Added sound effects for boosting, breaking and engine. Other ships also have boost sounds as well. Sounds are also be varied by distance and left/right.
  • Fixed the collisions again.
  • Exclamation symbol shows up when you fly too far off the edge of the play field
  • Added 5 more obstacles for the player to dodge. game gets more challenging the further you go
  • Other bug fixes and fixed some framerate issues

Ah another weekend! What a time to be alive! Eitherway homebrew doesn't write itself. Adding a boost/break gauge this weekend -. No more infinite boosting unless you playing on easy.

Also adding a gauge to slow how far along the stage you are. Both these bars can be hidden in the options menu.
I have been working on other stuff during the corona WFH week but mostly little fixes.

Yesterday in my never ending series of programming sidequests/distractions I added a feature that highlights a part of a object in front of you that you WILL collide with if you continue on your current path. Its a gameplay/quality of life feature to help reduce player crashes.

The reason why I follow you is because I fell in love with your NEWO Asteroids game.
I've downloaded Shooter, Escape, and Runner as well... and I'm really impresed to the point where I envy this skill you have.

Now I'm wondering if you are going to update all your Wii games and not just this one.

Maybe an idea to create more obstacles, something comes to my mind...
Have you played StarFox 64?

In the Asteroids Field there's a special route if you get to pass through all 7 blue thingies.
If you know what I'm talking about, you might remember that this new route in the Asteroids Field has enemies flying in a certain pattern that's more reminicent to Galaga.

Perhaps, you could implement such mechanics... getting through different routes in order to avoid obstacled that travels in certain patterns. Here's a video to explain myself:

I might update the others or start a new thing depending on how I feel or how long the update will take. Some homebrew are more complicated making them harder to update than others - time, effort, etc.

Bonus/Secret levels are definitely in the pipeline. But I am not sure what to put into the bonus levels. Questions; Do I put more obstacles? A different type of obstacle from the main game? coins that you collect for extra points? some sort of mini-game? Can the player die in a bonus level?

I'm not a developer and I certainly don't know how hard it is to code those mechanics. You should do what you feel your game is missing.

For instant the early versions of shooter had many ideas behind it but at the time I could not code alot of the mechanics because I simply did not know how to do it. many years afterwards I coded stuff like NewoFox/NewoEscape because of years of ideas that add up over time. What if you add "power-ups" that are actually obstacles?
If the player gets a "power-up" then the ship will behave against the player. For instance, making the ship bigger, heavier, faster, slower, or something like that. All of this for a limited time, and of course, as the stability of the ship will be compromised, this will make the player more prone to crash with more obstacles, reducing their score.
