I don't know why it wouldn't work, assuming the jig itself is sized properly.
Personally, I've always just used this paperclip jig. Mine have about a 95% success rate, and I only ever use them once per Switch to install AutoRCM anyway.

Yes, you can install AutoRCM on 8.1.0, assuming your Switch is unpatched. This will cause your Switch to always boot into RCM when powered on after being turned off. With AutoRCM installed, you should keep it in sleep mode when you're not using it.
That was my first jig as well, took me 45+ minutes to measure cut & bend it just right. Even though I have two proper jigs now I still keep the paperclip around, I can't remember a single failed RCM boot. I can't bring myself to get rid of it, nostalgia and such.
