The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been delayed to 2020

Coming as not much of a surprise to many, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie won't be releasing this year. Following the outpouring of criticism regarding the film's trailer and design of Sonic, the production team said they'd be redesigning the character to make him look a bit more like...Sonic. That announcement was made earlier this May, meaning the visual effects team would only have less than six months to rework the new look into the movie. That apparently turned out to not be enough time, as Jeff Fowler, the director, stated that they'd be taking a little more time to make Sonic "just right", by delaying the picture from November 8, 2019 to February 14, 2020.

It's also worth noting, the picture shown in the delay reveal has Sonic wearing his traditional white gloves, as opposed to the original movie design which instead featured him having white paws.

It's interesting to see that all the teaser posters out there were pointing out the bad figure, and instead of the dev team taking that, they keep going with their broken idea, only for the audience to really hate them when the trailer released, and now the dev team is having to redo something they had more than enough time to fix back when they showed the teaser posters. Bad, just bad. The Sonic Team should be fired and someone else take over. I know! Get the guy who used a home PC to erase Superman's mustache from Justice League!

Lots of people are way too focused on Sonic's redesign, while I remain skeptical about the movie itself.
A redesign fix might not defuse the bomb, and not prevent the flop.
You know how it works in video games, right?
A game could have some impressive character designs, but it's other factors, such as presentation and storywriting, sometimes end up being too boring, or very unlikable.
That goes the same for movies. You can hire Jim Carrey to do Dr. Eggman, you can give a new amazing voice actor for Sonic, but they end up being meaningless if the rest of the movie will be, just bad.

But yeah, whatever floats your boat. if you can enjoy the movie just by having sonic's design fixed, then have fun!
As for those who judge a movie for all it's factors, I suggest to keep expectations at absolute zero.

That's all right. It's not like we were on the edge of our seats or anything.
Maybe the back edge of our seats.

...why would Superman ever have a mustache
Also, a home PC is becoming less and less of a limitation. RTX, anyone? (Watch this be an outdated comment the moment Nvidia reveals their "something super")

Really no damn reason for sonic to look like that.

Even if you wanted him to look like he had realistic fur there are tons of decent looking models that do just that while still holding the "Adventure" sonic look that everyone likes.

Hell there are even classic sonic models that do that as well.

I am sure some fans that have created this would have jumped at the chance to do this movie justice...

They might have been bad movies, but they wouldn't have made three of them if they didn't make money. So it goes. Then again:

Isn't February typically a dumping ground for movies that are not otherwise expected to make much money?

yup! that's why it won't have any competition. they might also have zero confidence in it XD but still.
