nds-bootstrap loader: Run commercial NDS backups from an SD Card

nds-bootstrap:

Thanks to the work of ahezard, Gericom, Apache, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000 and other contributors, we can now load NDS games from the SD card, without any flashcard/SLOT-1 card.

Don't expect high compatibility, but do expect many, many updates.

Hey @Robz8 I just wanted to tell you I was mistaken. The problem was I did not have the AP piracy applied on my games when I thought it was, so that was the reason they were freezing randomly. Sorry about that and keep up the great work!

Robz8 so I have latest bootstrap and latest twilight menu and I am trying to play Dragon Quest VI which has been ap patched. Game plays fine and I then save my game but when I next switch on my 3ds and try to play a game I get a curupted save message and then the game deletes the curupted save. This happens every time I switch off the 3ds and try to reload the game.

It's a known issue with some games, where it doesn't read or save the game properly (DBZ Supersonic Warriors 2, for example).

Damb I guess I will just wait a bit longer for hopefully a fix before continuing my play through of all dragan quest games in order lol.

Yes. It's a TWL_FIRM bug that happens randomly on any game, not just those two games.
It also happens on retail carts and flashcards as well.

v0.16.0

What's new?
  • RAM disk support has been added for homebrew!
You can load a .img file up to 12MB if you're on DSi, or 28MB if you're on 3DS, to the console's main RAM, and be free from either a flashcard or the console's SD card.
This increases DLDI homebrew compatibility a lot, though very few may still not work (ex. Moonshell v1.x, which works fine from SD card).
The RAM disk .img path will be saved to the .ini file by TWiLight Menu++ (starting with v7.2.0).
Use this program to create RAM disk .img files.
  • Loading screen has been ported over from retail game build to homebrew build of nds-bootstrap.
It will only be shown when using a RAM disk .img file, or else it will either be shown for a split-second, or not be shown at all.
  • The `DC_FlushRange` code is no longer ran when reading from SD card. May improve loads speeds a tiny bit.

I would like to report that Tales of Innocence with Absolute Zero patch applied worked for me WITH intro somewhere on late september - mid october nds-bootstrap update
(cant remember which one).

If someone could look into it would be most appreciated.

As for settings in TWLoader v6.7.0:

Flashcards selected:

Original R4
M3 Simply

or (one of those two)

Galaxy Eagle
M3DS Real

ARM9 CPU Speed: 133 mhz (TWL)
Sound/Microphone frequency: 32.73 kHz
SD card access for Slot-1: ON
Reset Slot-1: Off
Bootstrap: Release

Might need to enable game patching in Luma3DS.

Hope this will be of some help. And sorry for late report.

Are you still using TWLoader, or have you switched to TWiLight Menu++?

I was to get intro in ToI one more time just a while ago by playing with bootstrap versions from specified date but to no avail.
Then it occured to me I should at least try to report. And yes, I tried TWiLight Menu++ 2 days ago, but since ToI was not working I decided to fall back to TWLoader.

Hey @Robz8 I have 4 questions (My english is crappy):

1.Sonic Rush Adventure crashes at the last scene of the game, when the credits come. Can you fix this maybe?
2.Is it possible to fix the Minigames in New Super Mario Bros DS?
3.Will sometime in the near future more games have Multiplayer compatibility, like Mario Party DS, Mario 64 etc. ?
4.Can you reduce the Lags in Animal Crossing Wild World if its possible (and the Mega Lag when you open the Inventory)?

I don't know if this can be solved but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Running Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story from SD card on my CFW'd Old 3DS, the game is AP Patched and fully playable, but loading times are pretty slow, you can notice it when you touch an enemy, the transition is severely slowed down. (Yeah I know the remake is out, I've finished it last week)

The compatibility list doesn't say anything about this so I wanted to verify.

I've updated everything to the latest version today.

I actually get the freezing intro with an unmodified rom and it also happens when I use a flashcart. I just skip that part by tapping A fast, rest of the game works great.

v0.17.0: Loading Screen Mayhem

What's new?
  • A simple loading screen has been added. (made by @FlameKat53)
  • A custom loading screen can now be used!
Your .bmp file should be placed in one of these locations:
    `sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/dsimenu/loading`
    `sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/3dsmenu/loading`
    `sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/r4menu/themes/themename/loading`
    `sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/akmenu/themes/themename/loading`
The .bmp file should be named 0.bmp. If it's an animated loading screen, then also add `1.bmp`, `2.bmp`, etc. (up to `29.bmp`).
The animated loading screen will loop after it's frames are shown.
    Supported frame rates are 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24, and 30.
You will need to open the theme's .ini file (config.ini, for the DSi and 3DS themes), and add the data for the loading screen, beginning with `[loading screen]` (or `[Loading]`, if it's an R4 theme):
Code:
frames = 29 (can be from 0 up to 29)
fps = 30 (use one of the supported frame rates)

First letter of the two settings must be capitalized for the R4 theme.
Finally, set the loading screen to TWLMenu++ theme in the TWiLight Menu++ settings screen!

Occasionally (1/3 game boots) getting a 20 pixel buffer on the bottom of each screen where it repeats the last 20 as if it's stretching tiled. Not a big issue, but annoying none-the-less. This is the latest release on o3DS, latest nintendo update, LumaCFW.
