At the moment I am using Tinfoil (by Adubbz) 0.2.1 to install .nsp files on ReiNX.
During installation it reports: WARNING: Ticket installation failed!
Can I simply ignore this warning? I did not notice any negative side effect.

If its a converted or custom (e.g homebrew) .NSP file, it won't have a ticket to generate hence the warning. But a warning is just that. An error is what you want to be on the lookout for.
Is it true that exfat makes you more susceptible to corrupt data?
Yes

Yes

The common theme I keep seeing when someone is talking about corruption on exfat is for emulation. If I don't use emulators am I fine with just Switch games or do those corrupt too? Not sure if it matters but I'm using a 128 gb sandisk micro sd card.

That is only half-right. Corruption occurs when using any form of homebrew whether it be an emulator, save manager, or something else altogether. I believe you can even corrupt your SD card even if you experience a crash while playing a game.

One more question because I'm deciding what i want to do. Do saves save to nand or the sd card? Because I have all my nsps backed up on my computer so it wouldn't be a big issue if corruption happened if I just lost games I could just readd them but saves would be a big issue.

Saves are on the NAND.

Ok I lied one more ?, is autorcm permanent or reversable? Just want to know if I do it could I go back to normal in the future in case there's a new hack that doesn't need RCM.

But so far I've just used sleep mode and kept it on CFW unless I need to install a new game. I might just keep doing this as there's only one more game I need to add (Ys VIII) Until Smash Bros Ultimate comes out.

Ok noob here who doesn't have like any experience with cfw and the like.

Let's say I have a Switch on ofw 3.0.2 and install a cfw like Reinx. Then I get a game on a cartridge that requires fw 5.1 to play.
Now my questions are:
1. Can I start the game from the cfw and just install fw 5.1 if it prompts me to? Or would I need a different way to update?
2. If I can just update from the game cartridge, what would be the disadvantages to updating by other means?

Hi guys. I've been playing pokemon pikachu docked mode with separated joycons for hours today no issue. But after dinner, after a system reboot, when I remove the joycons the system says "I cannot detach joycons when in airplane mode". I've been in airplane mode ever since hacking my switch for months now and I played pikachu today with the joycons detached no problems at all. Why is this message suddenly preventing me from detaching the joycons? Anyway to circumvent this?
Thanks!

AutoRCM is reversible. Just use the same tool you used to install to instead remove it.

  1. If you ever need to update your firmware, use ChoiDujourNX to update instead since it can do so without burning fuses. Fuses primarily prevent downgrading so if you don't burn them, you can revert back to a lower firmware in case a new exploit is released for it such as an untethered coldboot.
  2. Another thing to note is that there is an update for the gamecart slot on firmware 4.0 that renders the slot unusable on firmwares below 4.0. This is relevant in case there is a future exploit on a firmware below 4.0 that relies on the gamecart slot. To prevent it from being updated when using ReiNX, make an empty without an extension named "nogc" (without the quotation marks obviously). Other CFW have other means of preventing the gamecart slot from being updated in case you stop using ReiNX

First i wanted to say thanks for the quick answer and I hope I'm not to annoying if I have some follow up questions.

Untethered coldboot definitely does sound quite a bit more convenient. But I assume if I didn't care for downgrading I could just use the game card update and burn the fuses.
This makes me wonder, if you are on a low fw how do you even play games that require a higher one? Do you need an emuNand for that to work?

Hm, the whole game card slot update thing wasn't mentioned in the guide they put online for Reinx. They should add that, it's quite important information. (correct me if I'm wrong and just didn't see it, but I don't think it was in the guide. Or ChoidujourNX for that matter.)
Btw do i place that nogc file into the root of the SD or a specific folder?
And about that firmware switching.
If I have a certain firmware installed and want to use another one, do I just replace the files on the sd card and go through the install for the new cfw? Or could that damage my system and I need to "uninstall" the old one first?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I just haven't used any cfw for my switch yet and wanted to make sure I know what's best to do and how it works before I make some unnecessary mistakes.

Would it be a good idea to buy a Switch now, as waiting could cause stock firmware to be incompatible with the modchip? That's pretty much the case with the PS4 now.

Also is the current mod chip likely to be compatible with Switch games for the next several years?

  1. There is no firmware spoofing around for the Switch. You will have to update your firmware to play newer games. EmuNAND is not a firmware spoof as it too needs to be updated much like SysNAND to play those games. You can either update normally via going online or with the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX
  2. The nogc file goes in the /ReiNX folder
  3. To change your firmware, just place the firmware folder of the firmware you wish to go on your SD card and point ChoiDujourNX to that folder with the files

Unlike PS4 firmware dont matter right now but Nintendo patched newer consoles made since around July that are currently unhackable any method. If you find an older one that is hackable you dont have to purchase anything although you have to mess with your joycon but it's easy or you can buy SXOS. If you wait it could make it harder to find one you can hack but they may come up with a new hack but that's not guaranteed. Here's a thread about the serial number compatibility https://team-xecuter.com/forums/threads/154355-GUIDE-How-to-know-if-a-Switch-is-currently-unhackable-(August-2018)/page8

Also online is out if you hack your Switch.

There's never a guarantee any hacking method (mod chip or whatever) will work in the future even tomorrow. It's like a chess battle between Nintendo and the hackers going on all the time.

Is it safe to update my switch from 4.1.0 to 6.1.0 using choidujournx? I just want to remove my friends accounts from it since I bought it used. I plan to downgrade back to 4.1.0 and use homebrew, but I don't really know the steps, can anyone please help me out?

Its pretty much safe unless your Switch miraculously shuts off during the firmware installation process. Also the ChoiDujourNX GBATemp thread has sufficient instructions on how to use it but if you need guidance, all you do is navigate to the folder containing the firmware files, press Choose in the bottom-right corner once you see the .NCA files, and follow the rest of the on-screen prompts.

Here’s and odd question: what happens if I try to run one of the games that I’ve installed on the SD card, if I DON’T boot a CFW? Kinda tempted to try it out but I chickened out and went here instead X)

I honestly didn’t expect to see the games installed when I booted the Switch without my jig and with no payload injector. Thought that the Switch wouldn’t detect them, dunno why I had this idea :P

Will any fuses be burnt if I connect to my WiFi after updating?, since I need that to delete the accounts.
