Yea for now i better hope my DNS holds when I get back on to play I hate updates.. I thought Nintendo had finally ditched WiiU, while thats sad its free game for those who still own one, meaning Homebrew etc I am saddened by the lack of much unique homebrew though .. I don't load in backups I have all the games I like on discs ..I hope Nintendo backs off and stops the updates ..

Kinda afraid to plug in my Wii U after just using it the other day. Does the DNS block work 100% still?

The other methods being talked about (spoofing and deleting the update folder seem pretty risky)

if the dns fails or isn't correct, u won't be able to connect to the internet, so you're safe using that regardless of whether it went down or not.

so the people claiming the DNS method isnt blocking the updates are not doing something right then?

never heard of that before. I'm blocking updates with cc proxy. both my wii-u's are grouped together with it. that's y I recommend cc proxy or similar app over these dns servers. as long as your computer is configured correctly and is on, u block updates and u can connect to the internet.

Fuuuuuuu-

I turned off protection a couple of days ago (checking it was safe to do so) but forgot to re-enable it! I got complacent...

Hi. Bit of a newbee here too. I have a ton of games installed on usb hard drive. Successfully blocked the 5.5.2 update, so still on 5.5.1 but I can't seem to be able to play online. I've already tried Smash and Mario Maker and said an update is required. So if I install this Haxchi will i be able to run homebrew from it? What exactly is Haxchi? Is it just like the browser exploit? All I would do before was run mocha cfw so my console is region free and I can run dlc/eshop games. Could I do that with Haxchi?

Thanks for the quick response. I'm assuming all other games that have been installed will work?

Any game that is a digital backup from disc games will work, don't matter if you update to 5.5.2, as i had read about on gbatemp.

I think this is if you're using cfw via browserhax. games that don't require cfw would work regardless.

Since eShop-only games and DLC only works with cfw and they can only be playable after had install them, they won't work on 5.5.2.

Again, that is not my answer, but just what i had read on similiar 5.5.2 threads.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My tip: regasdless from what some peeps are initially saying: just wait (and stay on 5.5.1) until a 100% exact answer that provide full details about 5.5.2 comes.

so i don't have a wii u yet.

if i get one and it's on v5.5.2 i'm screwed till a new exploit is found? if there will be one.

if i get one and it's used and on v5.5.1 or lower i'm screwed because it won't let me use the browser till i update?

great so i can still use the browser. i remember on the wii you couldn't use the shop channel or weather channel until you updated.

edit: oh and facepalm myself. there won't be any new wii u's so all wii u's will be 5.5.1 or lower. it's early in the morning my brain isn't working yet. :)

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament

maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
