You should use .ogg if you can't use .BCSTM or if you don't know how to create themIs it better to use AAC or OGG?

Oh ok, thanks. There are only a few AAC header formats supported, so you're probably better with OGG. I mostly just added AAC for eShop music support and didn't bother testing a lot with different types.
But BCSTM is better than both.
I don't know much about Brawlbox, but make sure it's encoding is DSP ADPCM if that's an option.
Also, link me to which ever BCSTM file on http://smashcustommusic.com/ doesn't work. I tried several and they worked.
What's their sample rate?
Odd, works fine for me. Did you make sure you downloaded the BCSTM and not the others? Here it is: http://smashcustommusic.com/56092.

Check the OP. freeShop now uses a new format for BGM.I made a shop-intro.ogg and shop-loop.ogg and placed them in /3ds/data/freeShop but it still plays the default bgm.
Huh, alright, thanks for the update.Check the OP. freeShop now uses a new format for BGM.

Guess I might as well post the loop ogg I made then.

Fixed it, thanks for pointing that out.the link you provided asks for a decryption key
where can we share the shop music? I did the september 2015 - 2016 loop. The ability to add custom tracks to freeShop is great, I converted some of my fav. songs to OGG and they seem to play just fine!
Now I can finally listen to something else instead of the only two annoying tracks that come with it
