There's no way of playing DS games off the blue card on a New 3ds right? When I boot it from the home screen, it says "an error has occurred. Press and hold the power button to turn off the system."

So hakuoki freezes and i need to download the patch to fix it. i am on emunand 9.5.0-22U, do i just sign on and download it? (do i need to mess with headers, etc and is this emunand usable?) Thanks!
Can I play EU cias on my USA 3ds 4.2 using Palatine CFW? or what I need to do it?

Your emunand is perfect but GW has not released 9.6 support so eshop is off limits. Your update is available in cia format on the "other" site that also has lots of roms. If you have any other questions just ask.
Sometimes cia files just don't work for whatever reason and it is best to just try a different copy. While I don't run Palantine if you can run 7.x games out of region ones should not be a problem. I have seen threads that specifically say if the cia is CFW compliant. Look for that.
If I make a CIA from a cart on one 3DS can I use it on any 3ds? Also can you make CIAs from anything? Or only from retail carts?

Thanks Thorasgar for your answer, will try a different copy maybe different game Monster hunter looks as a good choice, I really hope someone can do a better CFW, or whatever needs to be done for better compatibility because it looks like all the copies of a few games are exactly the same and are being copied over and over.
First time posting here.
After reading many topics here, I still do not understand how to update game files. What I know is, latest firmware is not needed to play online but latest game version is. And in order to update the game version, eshop access is needed. However, as of right now, Gateway cannot emulate the latest emuNAND, so the only option is updating through cia files. My question is that can .3ds or .3dz files be updated using cias or do I have to install cia games instead to play online? I have been searching for some cia update files for my Pokemon Omega Ruby JP but I only found the whole game in cia format.
I had the same problem. Follow this video, but do it on your sysnand (so no SD card with emunand on it in your DS)
After that, you can just put the old SD card back in your DS, reboot, and you can play DS games with the blue gw card.

I've been on Omega 2.1 for a long time now. So I attempted to update to Ultra 3.1.1 today. I transferred the launcher file to my microsd card and then ran the installer via the blue card. The installation worked. Yet when I go the red card and check the Gateway menu it says I'm still on 2.1. What am I doing wrong?
PS: the whole reason I want to update is to play STEAM, as when I try to play it I can't get past the system menu. When emunand 9.6 is eventually supported will it be possible to update the emunand and then play via Omega 2.1. Also I'm currently on emunand 7.1.0.

The updates are installed on the system as cia and will apply to the .3ds/.3dz files as well, the FW takes care of that chore for you. I cannot link to it here but you need to google for a ISO site that also supports 3DS roms. I have confirmed the jap updates are there.

That cart will only play DS games just like the Acekard, DStwo, cyclo and all the others rom back then. If you want a DS cart make sure you get the one manufactured by r4ids.cn not the RdHC one. They update the card every year and it seems like the older models are not supported. I just purchased a couple more r4ids.cn cards from modchipdirect.com for about $15 each.
If you want to play 3DS games sky3DS and gateway are the only options. They both have clones but they are only slightly cheaper and not as well supported.
I assume your sysnand is on 4.x? I never used that. When you say gateway menu are you refering the the one where you can select gateway ode, classic mode, format emunand etc.? If so the update to the red card did not take. If so let me know and we will hunt down a procedure to update it.

it seems like using a sky3ds or gateway is the only real route now. one that is supported to near latest versions i believe
The cheapest I see on eBay (that ships to Canada) is almost $70 (CAD). Our dollar is only 80 cents to every US dollar right now.

I want to buy a flashcard.
The thing is that i won't be able to play with it before june (i'm a student, big tests incoming... ^^')
After reading some forums, what i understood is that the only flashcard compatible with N3DS is Sky3DS.
But i also saw that it is a very limited flashcard.
My questions are :
- Can i buy a Sky3DS right now ? Is there a high risk that it will be blocked by nintendo soon ?
- Or should i wait, for maybe a new version of the Gateway / Another card ? Are there some rumors of it ?
- If i buy a Sky3DS, should i upgrade my 3DS, or should i leave it in 9.0.0-20E ?

Does anyone know what the serial # starts with for the New 3DSXL USA? I will be buying one tomorrow and am hoping to find one with v9.2 or 9.0. I checked the wiki but the only answers there were for v4.5.
Yes! I found the last copy of cubic ninja in the city at EB games (GameStop in Canada) for $20. I just ordered the gateway from modchipcentral so now it's just time to wait. Thanks for everyone's help so far!
