eeh....what do u mean when u say : d(a) put in your bigbluemenu.3ds into the root of the sd2 card.- what is that?
nevermind. just asked google, he told me and laughed at me.

Yes and yes. I will leave the answers to others that know more but the consensus seems to be Gateway is favored due to many more options. If you just wanted simple plug and play and don't mind taking awhile to cycle through the roms (you have to press a button each time to switch), Sky3DS does seems pretty easy to use.
I sort of enjoy all the more advanced stuff and homebrew though so Gateway was the choice for me.
YMMV.
What options does Gateway have that Sky3DS doesn't?
Also, how difficult is Gateway to setup and use?
I just know that you can install cia's, you have emunand, and other options....
And as far as sky, it doesnt have the ability to do emunand... but it does work with the current firmware. whereas with gateway, you have to be 9.2 or lower
sky is as easy as inserting your cartridge in the console....
with gateway, you have to run the exploit, but thats also easy to do.
What are CIAs?
I just bought a *new* 3DS XL from Walmart (got it bundled with Monster Hunter 4 for a $20 discount)
Does Gateway work with the New 3DS XL?
When you say 9.2 or lower, are you talking about firmware version or retail version?
Sorry for the questions, but I am new to DS/3DS/etc stuff. I haven't owned a Nintendo handheld since GBA color. I am more of a PSP/PSV guy, but NDS has a bunch of games I want to play.
GW has FW spoofing so roms can actual run on lower FW than the game requires, as sometimes the requiremnt is artificial. By default GW prevents the automatic upgrading of the FW that would normally occure with retail carts. Pressing up on the Dpad disables that function so you can update emunand from the rom.Alright I finally was able to update to Gateway 3.1.1. Also I updated my emunand via the rom method. Now STEAM actually loads! The only thing I did differently, to trigger the ability to update, was pressing up when loading an icon in the gateway menu. What does pressing up do to effect the system?
Yes you can install cia (eshop) to sysnad but in general it is better to install them to emunand. dev menu/bigbluemenu is the tool.is there a way to install eshop stuff to sysnand for people who have a gateway and oot on a 9.0 u n3ds ll
Cia is the file format for eshop titles, updates, DLC. Basically programs that run from the internal mSD card rather than a cart. What are CIAs?

Gateway is simple to set up and use in its basic intended configuration. It gets complicated when you move to more advanced setups for things like homebrew, save game editing, custom firmware (CFW) etc. it probably takes an hour or so to set it up mostly just formatting emunand and backing things up, copying roms etc. Take a look at the usermanual in the downloads section of gateways web site. What options does Gateway have that Sky3DS doesn't?

Do so at your own risk.not what I meant, I want to download eshop software updates so they work on sysnand without going to classic mode

As MWG said check your firmware version if it is 9.2 or below you are good for gateway, if not take it back and look for a different one or your only choice is Sky.

Sky plays games and that is it, nothing else. No rom dumping, homebrew, save editing rom hacking and probably a bunch of other stuff the hardcore propeller heads get into.![]()
no I just want to actualy download stuff from e-shop chanell like dlc on a regular or new 3ds and the stuff I download from the e-shop is usable in sysnandDo so at your own risk.
Remove the mSD from the 3ds then boot Gateway mode as you normally would. You are now in Gateway mode and sysnand without emunand. Put the mSD card back in and then install your content. Optionally some people use a second Sd card for this, though it is a pain taking plate off a n3ds everytime you want to switch.
Then Gateway is not for you. In order to access the eshop you must be on the current firmware (right now 9.6) GW is only compatible with 9.2 sysnand and 9.5 emunand.no I just want to actualy download stuff from e-shop chanell like dlc on a regular or new 3ds and the stuff I download from the e-shop is usable in sysnand
For the most part homebrew has kind of lost its appeal over time for me as well. My phone is much better at a lot those functions.Hm. Well, I don't much care for homebrews (I know, blasphemy!). However, you got me interested in the DLC aspect.
I ordered my N3DS online, so when I get it next week I will see what my options are.
You can check out RxTools, they have 9.6 running but I recall it is limited. In theory if you had a functioning 9.6 emunand with eshop access and your emuand and sysnand were linked all the content would be accessible, in theory. I dont use sysnand for anything so I have never tried.I know that but im just asking if there is a way to theoricaly do it now (like if emunand 9.6 is supported) because when I was using my gateway in the beginning stuff I downloaded from emunad e-shop worked on sysnand
I'm trying to move an Animal Crossing: NL save from a N3DS to an original 3DS. Both are updated to 9.6 (so no GW) and both have the eShop version, not the retail cart. I currently have the desired save data sitting on my PC. I think the Anti-Savegame Restore "feature" is my last hurdle. Am I missing some way to fool it into accepting the data? Because I'm really quite stuck.
You can't.
I would check out the threads on "legitimate cias" and see if the games you want to play can be installed.im just trying to see if there is a way I can play retail games with latest software updates on sysnand without the need to switch carts 3 times especialy for the mewtwo update that's coming up for smash
