:moogle: Hell-o tempers and temperessess..
Small question: about the NTR-cfw, how do i use the plugin ''layeredFS'' for textures replacements? ..where do i need to drop my new textures?
Sooo mainly..:

-how do i activate the plugin?
-what is the directory to make for the modded files?

Thanks :grog:

Project STEAM has been available for about two weeks, yet no dump has been released. Can anyone confirm, via the Gateway rom dumper, if STEAM works?

Hi, Is there a way to access the microSD behing the backplate of the N3DS without allways unscrewing it. I want tu put some cias on it but dont want to go allways through that tedious process
No, unless to you want to wait a week for a CIA to transfer via ftp.

Just because you have not found the dump, doesn't mean it doesn't exist lol. I've had it since release, and it has kept the cart in its case sealed ;)

I picked up my NN3DS and it's on 9.0, so first step complete. I'm now looking into getting Cubic Ninja (or Zelda), a micro SD card and of course a Gateway.

Any suggestions on SD card? Is 32 GB big enough? How many roms (on average) would git on a 32 GB? I've heard conflicting reports on some 64 GB ones not working?

I use a 64GB internal mSD and play all my games via CIA. Ofc the most popular combo is one internal 32, and one external 64. Though you can easily get by with just a32gb external.

Remember, multirom menu is nice, but flipping from game 1 to 30 is still gonna be annoying. So I chose the CIA route.

Each game is diff size. MM3D is 600mb~ .Mario 3D land is 350MB, and fe awakening is 2.2GBs. So I can't really give you an estimate on how much space you can fit.

I concur with 2Hack. Yes some people have problems with 64gb cards as nintendo does not support the SDXC standard. I successfully use Sandisk ultra and Samsung Evo 64GB cards. Remember they must be formatted as FAT32.

My advise is to buy from a retailer that has a good return policy if the card your purchase does not work. I have bought almost all of mine through Amazon and not had a problem yet. You might find them on sale a few dollars cheaper but Amazon consistently offers a good price on these two lines (at least in the US). A 64 generally runs $33-35.

One disadvantage of cia involves backup of your save. 2hack can correct me if I am wrong but you would need to copy the entire folder over or use SDF individually on each game. With .3ds files (card 1 type at least) you just have to copy the.sav files.

My strategy is going to be use cia for any online capable games and .3ds for solo games. As a general rule. Also .cia files are generally 20-50% smaller.

As 2hack said you just have not found it. It works great for me. A Google seach should provide good list of links to sites that specialize in ISO files of the type we generally use.

The EUR version isn't there. :(
Indeed it is not. Send a note to the admin and I am sure they will add it shortly.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of going the .cia route as well. I was going to do a 32gb internal and 16gb external. I don't plan on having that many backups, honestly if I had more than 10 at a time I'd be surprised.

If I go mostly internal .cia do I need anything larger than 8 or 16gb for external? All that will be on it is nand and eshop stuff right?

We refer to the mSD that goes under the bottom plate as the internal Sd. It holds cia, eshop, mdlc, updates, card 1 game saves. The mSD in the gateway holds .3ds/3dz files and card2 saves (Pokemon, AC) if you go cia route put the larger on inside. You need extra space for the cia install. Once the game is installed you can delete the cia file itself.

So I bought a PAL n3DS. I'm okay with just using it as a DS for now, but I would eventually hope to be able to play all my NTSC 3ds games on it and also transfer all of my digital eshop games over. I've only had it for a couple days but I already like it a lot more than the XL.
Basically, I want to region swap this thing from PAL to NTSC (and I'm sure I'm not alone with that), is this ever going to be possible without 'taking' files from a second 3ds?
Right now I have a:
n3DS - PAL Region - 9.0.0 Firmware. (Target 3DS)
n3DS XL - NTSC Region - 9.6 Firmware (Host 3DS)
Ocarina of Time - NTSC
Cubic Ninja - NTSC

I assume at the very least I will need a PAL copy of Cubic Ninja or Ocarina of Time if I ever want to do this? And my XL to not be on 9.6...

A lot of places are talking about unlinking sysnand from emunand by formatting sysnand, is there any reason I can't do the opposite and format emunand to unlink them? I guess to clarify my question can I format either without issue to unlink them or does it have to be sysnand?

Okay. I used a couple of those "no flashcart required" tutorials on my spare old3DS, and Everything's gone well, and i'm running on palantine 1.0 (4.5.0-8E).

Thing is.. now what? I want to run some of the homebrew like playcoinsetter and the Homebrew Channel, but DevMenu doesn't launch .3DSx files.

What am I missing? (other than of course, a Gateway?)

Well I'm part of playbits and its not listed. Also I searched some public trackers and its not on any of them either. I'm sure STEAM is on BCG but I'm not a member. Can you either list here, or PM me, a message board or tracker that has STEAM? Thanks.

I gave you a hint already on a term to google. What kind of system are you looking for help on? Is it a 3DS, maybe?

I don't know much about it but I would follow this thread for insight to your project.

It can be either one. You will loose all data and programs on the one you format. People have different needs and some still like to use sysnand which is fine right now but becomes more of a problem later on as games require higher firmware. I format sysnad and never use it and is best for the average user. There are advanced setups that use sysnand and even linked ones but if you don't have a reason to keep them linked it is safer to unlink them. You can always reconfigure down the road.

I can't help you with Palantine as I dont use it. Same question as you " now what?" :) I also get cranky rebooting 10 times to get a console to launch.

If you have dev menu installed you can install playcoinsetter.cia, while you figure out what to do with your new CFW.

How would I go about getting the save file for SSB off of my cartridge, and on to my gateway? Is it even possible?
If you have a n3ds and cubic ninja it is now possible. Start with this short thread, it has links to longer discussions.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/anyway-to-transfer-sky3ds-sav-to-genuine-cart.385585/

unfortunately, you cannot do that due to the 7.x encryption, that SDF does not understand. You gotta either start over, or play that in classic mode :(
2hack is not incorrect, but with the right setup it is possible now.

So my journey to get everything I need purchased is still ongoing. I've got the NN3DS XL (9.0) and the micro SD cards. Now that I'm trying to find either CN or OOT I find they are very expensive. Especially to get a dongle AND OOT together... and some OOT's don't even work!

I see that some people are just getting a Sky3DS instead and that it works fine as a CN or OOT replacement. I'm almost thinking that is the better route so that way I have a separate working flashcart in case Gateway ever stops working for whatever reason.

For those who know more than me about this, what are your thoughts and recommendations? It's only about another $10-$20 to get a Sky3DS and seems more future proof. I've already spent this much money, why cheap out now? I could probably resell it down the road as well if I find a cheap CN or OOT one day, or if Gateway comes up with an exploit that doesn't need either.

Yea, if you are here just to pirate games, sky is by far the best choice you can make. It should cover your arse in case a new exploit is needed in the future for whatever reason as well.

Hey, now... play backups!...

What I was suggesting was to get a Gateway still but to get a Sky3DS as well (instead of CN or OOT).

Sky3DS... as long as it doesn't get blocked does seem like a whole lot less hassle than Gateway though, for ROM backups only anyway.
