Well, hullo folks, I am Kunoha.
So--- I wanted to play some Japanese games. But since stupid Nintendo made the region lock, I was prevented from doing so.

Is there any hacking method that could region free the 3DS? That could freely play games from any region? (dunno about Gateway)

The only method at the moment is with Gateway and its emuNAND (and a 3DS in firmware v4.X). It's possible once ssspwn comes out, but it'll take some time and work before taking away the region-lock.

Well, crap. I have the 3DS in the latest update.

Gateway, I heard you just play the ROM directly and I'm not sure about activating region lock permanently, I don't wanna activate Gateway mode everytime I start up my 3DS.

Why so secretive about SSSPwn? I might resort to that if it's like Homebrew.

The foreign game itself is no problem with Gateway, but I think you run into problems if you need a patch or DLC for a foreign game. Most games don't need that stuff, though.

Aye---
Seems like Gateway seems like the only choice, then? (Please tell me it activates region free permanently and I don't insert the blue card and so on every time I start up my 3DS)

EDIT: tbb043
Yeah, the game I'm trying to play is Inazuma Eleven Go: Galaxy (along with the EUR release of Go)
I don't think it would cause problems.

You don't need to use the blue card every time, only after playing a DS game (in which case you've already got the blue card in the slot anyway). You do need to run the DS profile exploit every time you boot the 3DS, however. No big deal, only takes a couple of seconds.

In any case, you're boned if you don't have 4.1-4.5. Gateway says they have something in the works for 9.0-9.2 consoles, but they haven't clarified what that entails or whether region free will still work.

You'll still need a v4.5 3DS to use Gateway, emuNAND, and get region-free functionality. We don't know much about Gateway's new v9.X exploit if it will give users region-free functionality and/or emuNAND.

You only need the blue card once, unless you play a DS game then you'll need it to reinstall the exploit again.
You just activate the hack each time you turn on the 3DS by going into System Settings and DS Profile, it's pretty simple. Takes a few seconds.

Edit: :ninja:

You can download and install them via cia files dumped by other users.

DS games- I'm just gunna disregard it. Unless something happens if inserting a DS game card.

Other than that- welp, I'm screwed.*headshot gesture*
If the 9.X firmware enables permanently and I don't don't have to do the procedure just to play my game, I guess it would be fine.
Otherwise, I will resort to importing a NEW 3DS from Japan.
