Actually it's not true. Legit GW bricks case had no corrupted SD cards, MD5 and CRC checksums were perfect match.
The bug that make the 3DS actual bricking acts after the gateway mode is successfully launched.
Yeah, but what is the trigger to the brick? There is thousands of gateways around the globe working without any kind of brick. There is just a few isolated cases which a brick has happen... IF they indeed are really legitimate cases, what is the common factor that is affecting it?

It seems that the only trustable case was from Devin (GBATemp Reviewer) and there is this:
Excuse my Vita's camera quality. Bricked 3DS XL on the left, unbricked 3DS as well as my GW3DS kit on the right.

EDIT:

Issac I got my GW3DS directly from the GW3DS team so I'll have to chat with them about it. As for having used a modified launcher before on my 3DS I have. Tis how I reviewed the R4i Gold Deluxe. However after the review I went back to stock GW3DS. Which worked perfectly until this brick.

if you have a legit gateway card, and also has downloaded the launcher from the official website, the only way that it can fail the security checks, is if there is something wrong with the launcher... That said, if it was corrupted, and the MD5 is different, there is a chance you can end bricking your 3DS.

Well, we do have several confirmed cases, including the official GBATemp reviewer for that piece of hardware.
And there are many legit users and homebrew devs who confirmed this, but I assume they're all Chinese mafia or something.
Awaiting a software solution eagerly. Possibly in the end of the handheld's lifespan.

Here's my latest e-mail exchange with GW:

bluemanmxl.png

1. There is no bricking, Devin case is maybe just is console being dead, we are
waiting on it to see. Also Devin had a dev unit (samples, before production).
Bricking is an issue with clones, ask clones for support: there is none, they
don't care about their customers, we do.

2. It never happened, so why again.

3. We are doing our best, but the crap with cloners made us lose time,
particularly the code by Normatt (the clone main coder, making a lot of money
copying our code) who can brick people with Gateway who installed it.
But all seems more or less solved now, so we are moving forward to 2.0 now, and
more to come after.

I kind of get the feeling the update is postponed this much because they are removing their "brick code" and are going to release a clean file, while further blaming the clones and Normatt.

yeah but if they do not adress their kill code, people will mistrust them forever, the best they could do is publicly remove the brick code, put a penalty on clone cards in some other way

It would be nice to have Devin's version of his discussion with GW ... Also if Normatt has something to say after reading those accusations, it would be nice to hear from him :)

So are there any legit reports of Normatt workign for the clone manufacturers? I've seen the whole Normatt is the main clone card coder/engineer quite a bit on various forums. At this point I'm more interested in all the dirt being thrown around than the actual state of GW. They'll be fine, as douchey as they seem.

I don't see how the fact that Normatt could work for R4i is something relevant. I don't find it far fetched, but the truth is that his modified version ofGW's launcher didn't inexplicably make all 3DSes vulnerable to brick, not to mention that the original launcher has caused more bricks than his Region Free launcher up to this day.

So Gateway say no deliberate bricking code.

Ok, burden is on the foot of the anti-Gateway conspiracy theorists to prove otherwise now - isn't it?

And psuedo code suggesting that 1/16 of clone card users will be bricked won't do.
Also your proof must explain why some Gateway card users also have reported bricks (especially after all the crap suggestions based on corrupt sd cards etc)

I am not working for the clones.
You have no financial relationship with clone cards ?
There sure alot of allegations here and elsewhere.
Why would people gain from accusing you specifically ?
It seems hard to believe anything these days.
