Does it currently offer any other feature besides playing "back-ups"?

No it does not.

However my point is not to say that it does more than backup playing.

My point is that these cartridges SELL because they allow piracy. You can hide behind all the homebrew and "support" the developers theories you want. If you buy these, you are supporting piracy.

The difference is whether you admit it, or not.

Did the Gateway team say you needed to back up save data? I heard it's working just fine. *Crosses fingers*

Nope, not buying a Gateway. Too many unknowns, except that it's blocked.

Impressed to see the GW team managed to add multi game saves to SD. But that's still not enough.

I'd rather wait for a more refined cart. Or even better, a softmod.
I can easily wait another 6 months. That'll be one full year since WE HACKED IT.jpg appeared.
If Gateway's still the only game in town by then, and runs on a fully updated system, I might grab one some time after Xmas. Maybe. I'm in no hurry to experience Piracy Syndrome again.

My 3DS is currently running 5.1.0.11E. There'll be no day-one romz for this little black deck.
No biggie. I have eShop points sitting idle that can't be used without updating to 6.X, and that's the final deciding factor.

As soon as I hit the post reply button, I'll update the 3DS and spend those points like a good little consumer. Then the plan is to play through my backlog, and we'll see what's shakin' in the scene in December, after finishing up LoZ:LBW.

Hope all you early adopters have fun though.

For me it's a no, for not at least. I won't be buying it until it's less expensive, not because it's too expensive now because it's actually fairly priced for what it is, but because I don't think I need one at least until the new Smash Bros. comes out. There aren't too many games I would play on the 3DS despite how much I like it. I also want to wait until some newer hacking technology comes out because I...may have accidentally on purpose updated to 6.0 to download New Leaf...

*sniff

Oh yeah, and I might wait until a softmod comes out for the 3DS. Actually, not might, I will. I wanna be able to run games natively from the SD card, since flash carts can pop out easily, which is why I download my games.

I don't have a problem at all i'm just saying that it may take a while before it gets cloned or reverse-engineered .

I think it'd be better, for me at least. That way all the bugs are worked out beforehand, and a better card is made. Seeing as there aren't too many great games out there at the moment for the 3DS (still waiting for SSB4 at least) a flashcart is pretty useless for me. There aren't enough games out there right now that I would buy and I'd rather have a more streamlined version of a 3DS rom loader.

Yeah your right but I plan to own this card & any of it's revisions I'm excited I've already seen the games that are coming in the future so to me it's not a waste because it's only a matter of time before they get dumped the only thing we have to worry about is the updates the games might have .

Definately no, it's sole underlying purpose is for piracy, ESPECIALLY since there arent any easy to use and accessible tools to make your own backups. It's rediculous, and its one of the biggest reasons why Neimod, Yellows 8, and whoever else could be working on documenting and searching out the 3DS should be supported as much as possible, in order to try to get some sort of soft mod going for the 3DS.

No REAL opportunity for making and loading REAL backups = No money for them.

My guess is that only the online ones, like Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Mario Kart 7 will have spotpass updates that block these flashcarts. Currently, the sole purpose of these spotpass updates is for bugs, and I remember one of them for MK7 being an update that removes an exploit in one of the races. Without updates like these, and much like system updates, all online functions are restricted, only available once you've updated. While I'm sure there can be patches, it's a real inconvenience to have to patch games like that. Perhaps the makers of Gateway and other potential cart makers can program it so no updates from the big N are made available. Of course, if you're planning on playing online, you probably shouldn't use a flashcart anyways.

But yeah, flashcarts flourish once the life of the console is almost over. I bet the Letterbomb exploit for Wii is easily patchable, but Nintendo didn't do anything about it. They've shut down WiiConnect24. They don't care if the Wii is hacked. When the 3DS is almost dead, they'll remove patches for that, too. That's why I'm not buying a flashcart until:

1. Backups are made easier to dump from the cart. It's easier for me to be able to do something like dump a disk from the Wii to a USB stick, and I'm sure there'll be a way to get the data from the cart to an SD card, which will make things a hell of a lot easier for me instead of carrying around all my cartridges. I don't want to have to download backups.
2. A softmod can be made from a flashcart's exploitations so I can just run backups modified from an image to a usable format to the SD card, and on the 3DS from there. No need for a flashcart by then, but hopefully they'll be less expensive by then.
3. Homebrew in general, such as emulators (that will hopefully let me run my GBA backups) or media players (namely video) are made available by flashcart, but if Gateway's cart is made available by an exploit, I'm sure the same thing can be done by emulating the encryption of the 3DS's software by making a piece of software for PC that allows for the entry of vital 3DS data, such as s/n or whatever it may use for the encryption to be used to use the image to recreate the software.
4. Such a process allows for the creation of a homebrew loader for 3DS. That would be so great...

You're backpedaling. He/she specifically said they were gonna wait because the kit seems specifically geared toward piracy. If he was "hiding" behind the notion of only being interested in something like this for homebrew, why would we comment at all? He would buy the thing. His point is valid, end of story. I'm not defending his stance -- I'm not going to argue the merits of piracty or anti-piracy -- but don't misrepresent what the guy said or complain because he said it.
