I have system menu 4.1. I guess I only asked since I can't access the wii shop channel anymore. Also I'm sure all my IOS are out of date. Any easy way to figure out which ones are missing/outdated so I can update them all?

you can install and create a log of your system using syschecker , then use modmii to scan your syschecker to update your outdted mods , i would just use modmii to remod your wii telling it you have a virgin wii , it will create a guide for you and download all the current files required.

the shop channel i think has been updated , maybe the reason you cant now access it , not sure , but i would ensure you have a fully brick protected updated wii before allowing any nintendo updates

1. Is Modmii the way to go, or is there some 'more preferred' way these days? Yes, modmii is the easiest. answer the questions and it will download/generate a guide for your specific setup.
2. CAN the red anniversary Wii be downgraded to 4.1? Yes (it's not a real downgrade, just copying a file over the other one, like replacing a .exe in windows)
3. If the answer to #2 is YES, what is the order of activity here?
Do I softmod with Modmii (or whatever's preferred) and THEN worry about downgrading? Or do I downgrade first? none. It's all done in the same step.
Modmii download all the files to be replaced (system menu and IOS), and install them all at once. there's no second steps.

Thanks, Cyan!

So you mean Modmii will ask me if I want to install the 4.1 over my 4.3?

Also, if I have one of the 'exploit' games, is there a preference between using that and using one of the 'bomb' methods? (which I've obviously only read about so far, so I admittedly don't know what they entail yet).

the "bomb" methods are easier and done directly on the system menu (just go to a specific place).
The letter bomb require that you generate a fake message for your Wii message board using an external website/application by providing your Wii's MAC address.
Banner bomb only need to you go to the installed channels page but doesn't work on 4.3

When using a game exploit, modmii will download all the required files for you, just play the game and follow direction in the guide to make the game hang and reboot the Wii, which will trigger the hackmii installer.

Just wondering if someone can answer a quick question about an external hard drive. I use a Seagate 500GB USB 2.0 Expansion Portable Drive for playing my backups and it works fab. Does the newer USB 3.0 version of this hard drive work with the Wii as it's not listed on the Wii USB Devices Compatibility List

Hi all,

I left the wii scene for almost 2 years but want to get back to playing the new Zelda game now that school is over. How do I update my wii to do that? My system is already soft modded and I have usbloader gx installed.

Is there anyway to update my system menu to 4.3?
Actually, you even though the Zelda game tells you it needs 4.3 to run, it really doesn't. At best, it just needs to have the right IOS updated. You can just use ModMii for Windows to update all those. Give the SysCheck log suggested by pwsincd to ModMii and it will analyze it and download exactly what you need to install to update that AND generate a custom guide telling you how to do so.

One of the things included when ModMii updated your softmod is PriiLoader which will block system menu updates for you so newer games that think you need 4.3 will just play directly without bugging you about updating.

Might as well ask this here before making my own thread about it. I'm trying to get a wad for Banjo Kazooie (N64). I'm pretty sure the game isn't officially on the VC catalog, and I was wondering if it would be possible to inject a Bajo Kazooie rom into some other VC N64 game. I've never dealt with wad injections before so any information I need to know would be quite helpful. It would also be great if someone could point me in the direction of the most recent injector tool, or newest method for carrying out such a task.

Just a quick question. Just updated my Wii once again with all the most current files via the bad ass tool known as ModMii. Everything is running great and just wondered how often one should typically update and do a new NAND backup? Also, what's an acceptable amount of 'Bad blocks' when doing the backup? I used to do it once a year or so but think I might do it more often.

I heard 80 bad block is the acceptable limit to ship the console to customers.
past that, nintendo doesn't sell it.
(I don't know if that number is exact)
Don't worry if you have few bad blocks.

making a new dump shouldn't be needed, unless your NAND has more and more bad blocks (which could make problem when restoring a backup which will not know the new bad block to skip, and would certainly be a sign of the Wii dying). You can make a new one every nowand then after you changed, and want to keep, the data stored on it.
At worst, you will loose your save data/mii. other things can be reinstalled.

Thanks. Yeah I only had one on this most recent backup and the last time I had around 3 or 4. I've read in the past that you should always do a NAND backup before doing any major updates, etc. but it got me thinking if the NAND itself actually ever changes. I assumed that it didn't so I figured there's really no point in having to continuously back it up. Either way, better safe than sorry I figure.

Appreciate the response.

Your recent backup have less bad block than your old backups? it should be the contrary, you should find more bad block with time. Bad block doesn't fix by themselves.
bad block are factory marked as "bad", and they should stay bad all the time.

Making a backup before an update is also a good idea, just in case you need one you are sure it's matching the current state of your NAND.

Yeah it's really odd. I've only ever owned this one Wii since launch and I've done numerous NAND backups. I remember there being at least 3 if not 5 the last go round but this time it was only one. The other odd thing was when it did the 2nd pass and verified the backup, the block marked bad changed to green (good).

I think my Wii is haunted... :D

I've been trying to install dios mios lite, and I've been having the most difficult time with it. When I attempt to install the WAD, I get an -2011 ticket error. Could anyone help me, please?

Which IOS are you using to install the wad?

In my experience (im no expert though), that type of error is usually related to the IOS you're using to do the install. I'd try 249 and then 36 myself. Might want to wait on another opinion in case I'm wrong since I don't want to add to the issue. Just my initial reaction to the problem.
