Hardware 3DS is region locked

The 3DS is region locked does this mean it won't play any games from other regions or only some of them ?
I am asking this question because in Australia there are only 17 games available compared to 100 or more in the US so if it will only play 17 Australian games I will then buy an US 3DS console instead of the Australian version and have a bigger choice of games

are you referring to 3DS games?
They have the same number as Europeans and Australians.

To answer your Question, yes the 3DS is region locked.
But if you were referring to DS games, they are not region locked.

Less than 50 probably.
Release dates may vary, but so far everyone is getting all retail games.

Most arent even out and MOST will be out in all regions, just different dates.

As for region lock question, games are region locked. So you wont be able to import from other regions.
Unless anything is said to be specifically region free o.o

But why you care?
The 3DS is region locked.

If you worry about that in future Australia will get less games than the US ( remember xenoblade for the Wii...still no release date for the US

) You must get 2 3DS Systems, or wait till its cracked, which could take years.

There is only 17 game titles available in Australia I went to JB HIFI and EBgames to check and there is only 17 and paying $250 for the privilege to play them is a bit extravagant, I might just cancel my order for a 3DS what do you think

I have been trying to find someone that can verify that European 3DS games will play on an Australian 3DS Console but have not been able to find anyone who can, is there anybody here that can verify that it will play

on that wikipedia page it is stated that australia uses the pal region system and europe consoles use pal
therefore europe software can work on an australia 3DS
