The 3DS is region locked does this mean it won't play any games from other regions or only some of them ?
I am asking this question because in Australia there are only 17 games available compared to 100 or more in the US so if it will only play 17 Australian games I will then buy an US 3DS console instead of the Australian version and have a bigger choice of games

oh goodie the time traveller returns. there arent hunderd or more games in the US. and yes region lock means you can only play games from your area. (unless i missheard that but fairly sure that's how it is)

    100 more?
are you referring to 3DS games?
They have the same number as Europeans and Australians.

To answer your Question, yes the 3DS is region locked.
But if you were referring to DS games, they are not region locked.

US/UK(EU)/AU have same number of games.
    Less than 50 probably.
Release dates may vary, but so far everyone is getting all retail games.

As for region lock question, games are region locked. So you wont be able to import from other regions.
Unless anything is said to be specifically region free o.o

    no man, you're wrong [IMG]
they just have different release dates.

    But why you care?
    The 3DS is region locked.

If you worry about that in future Australia will get less games than the US ( remember xenoblade for the Wii...still no release date for the US [IMG]) You must get 2 3DS Systems, or wait till its cracked, which could take years.

There is only 17 game titles available in Australia I went to JB HIFI and EBgames to check and there is only 17 and paying $250 for the privilege to play them is a bit extravagant, I might just cancel my order for a 3DS what do you think

You can import from anywhere in Europe if that's enough for you.

Just because most of Europe plays Pal it does not mean it will work on an Australian 3DS even though Australia is on PAL Australia is not a European region and the 3DS is region locked not NTC or PALsystem locked

on that wikipedia page it is stated that australia uses the pal region system and europe consoles use pal
therefore europe software can work on an australia 3DS
