The latest version is R1074 and some words are not translated.
Can I edit the file?
This is the first time for me and I don't know if I need an authorization.

French.lang (my own version) for r1093
You can check the differences with the version from Kin8 here : French.lang (r1092)
I kept some of your words and formulations.
Edit : r1093 v2 Version Cyan
Changed "Téléchargement des prévisualisations" to "Téléch." because the text was too long.
If other French users could tell us what they think and which one they prefer, or if you have other ideas, let us know.
You can install both version at the same time, just rename French.lang to French_Cyan.lang or anything else. it will be deleted if you force an automatic language file update as it won't be present on the update server.

Of course you can update the Italian, it seems there's no more team working on it (or waiting for a bigger release), the last update is from r1074.
There is no authorization required, except maybe the last/current translator if it's still actively updated. Anyone can help or translate in his own language.
Be sure to save in UTF-8 without BOM (ANSI as UTF-8). You can use Notepad++ or any other compatible program.
Try it on your console first to check the length of all the strings, if they don't fit they will have a lot of "..." at the end.
And for an advice, don't do a word by word translation, adapt it to your language it will feel better to read it.
You can also check at the end of the file the removed string, sometime when Dimok update the english string (put uppercase setting -> Setting) then it's considered a new one, and the old one is archived at the end of the file for references if needed to copy/past it again. It prevent loosing it
Post it here when you want, we will include it in the next updates.
If possible, post it on mediafire not zipped (just Italian.lang) it will be quicker for us to do the update

I decided to do the Spanish translation because the language file is very very old (r921). I suppose there won't be problems.

I traslated GX in these last 2 years... we can discuss a collaboration if you want...
by the way, I updated the italian lang file for GX v2.1 and I was waiting for the finalizing of v2.2 in order to provide the updated one....
Dimok announced yesterday in googlecode that r1095 was going to be the RC1 and hence I started working on the file this morning...
