Between this, Phantasian Productions, and the ASH translation project. I'm now realize that placing your faith in a translation patch really isn't worth it.

Not meaning to disrespect CN. Their work was great, but as expected 99.99% of translation projects never seem to make it to the finish line (for whatever reasons there may be).

I'm still sad we never got to see the ASH translation. Still, I think the amount of ds translation's we've gotten over the years is really impressive. Especially considering the consoles not even dead yet.

Man, this sucks. I honestly think quitting just because of trolls is a bit silly, but whatever, we should just respect their decision.

The SaGa 2 translation was great and I was really looking forward to all your unfinished projects.

Anyway, thanks for all your hard work.

AWESOME! Trolololololololols win again. Tell you what, kids, next time you feel like complaining, why don't you spend your time learning Japanese and acquiring some hacking skills so you can hack it yourself and see how "easy" it really is (Easy in quotes because I KNOW how hard translating can be). So I offer my congratulations to the many people who contributed to bringing an end to Crimson Nocturnal, one of the best translation teams out there. I, for one, can honestly see that being the sole reason behind their final resolution to quit, as it is a completely thankless job. Oh, sure someone leaves you a comment letting you know that they enjoy the translation and that's all fine and dandy, but what are these people really slaving over games for? No profit, no joy save for the minor sense of accomplishment you must get from the people who actually care enough to thank you, and in the end, you just get a bunch of trolling spammers who love to talk about what a terrible job you're doing of translating a game because it's not done as quickly as they'd hoped. So once again, congratulations to the pig-headed idiots who kept chipping away at CN's spirit until they cracked. You are truly a shining example of why people hate you.

I don't think I've ever used one of their translations, but if they're the kind of people who ragequit because not everyone reverences them as gods then they weren't that good to begin with.
I thank them for the work they've done in the past, but still think that anyone who decides to work with something that involves as much people as fan translations should be ready for anything.

such a pansy way reason to quit.

If every game company did like these guys no games would ever be made.

I don't see Nintendo saying they'll cancel the next Zelda, because to many people whine that it should be out already, or that they don't like the way the new Link look and all that..

(I realise using Zelda as an example might be a bad idea in this case, but i hope you get the point anyway)

The one thing people are overlooking is that they did the translations for their own enjoyment, because it's something they wanted to do. It's less them giving up because of trolls, and more giving up because they sucked any and all enjoyment out of the work. Because in all honesty, if you were working one something with no obligation to even start it, and hordes of people complained about it, hounded you every day, with no real appreciation for the amazingly large amount of effort it takes to do that work, would you wanna continue? Or would you just let it go, and get on with your life so you can be a bit less miserable?

Even if people are hounding you, it shouldn't be a reason to quit. A translator should translate for themselves because they want to regardless if people like it or not. The self-motivation is the goal to drive it forward, and all else is just vanity.

If we let people bother us that much, we shouldn't have started a translation in the first place simply because things like that are bound to happen.
It's much easier to ignore them and if they continue to hound, simply ban or suspend them from your forum. Much easier than having the ones who supported them pay the price.

It is easy to lose motivation when you're a romhacker or a translator and people are bugging you like a horde of flies, but it's just as east to regain that motivation when you sit down and talk with the supporters or play the game you're translating all over again. Ragequitting out of nowhere will only ruin the very faith people put into you and the faith you put into yourself. If you never return to the community, I suppose you'll never know how disappointed people are, but you'll always have to live with the fact that you're a quitter.
