I was happy going to get the translation of saga 2 when, so I enter the site I came across a nothing nice news, the great group crimson nocturnal is over forever, damn, they were very good, the translations great quality, and now we will not have it anymore, that means we will not have the translation of Saga 3 which I also was looking forward ....

in the letter left, Neoxephon comments about people who just complain and pressure the group of translation and that this was one reason to end .... very sad

congratulations to all those who instead of helping, only annoy...
that this be a lesson for all

a true congratulations to this wonderful group that left us sad and wistful and a big thank you

Damn. If I'm not mistaken, they had a lot of different projects going to. Disappointing to hear that a group fell to the criticism of idiot trolls.

I'd say it's their own fault for being so open with their translations. I mean, giving interviews at Siliconera is sure to throw a lot of attention to the group.

Noobs/whiners/idiots will always exist, so don't give them the possibility to whine at you and there you go.

I just think this is the most silly reason ever to quit something. Sure, it's a hobby, it's something they do just for fun, just to make games playable for others too.. but if ppl keep complaining about what you do, ignore them?

I wouldn't stop drawing just because people tell me my art style doesn't suit their taste.

You draw all kinds of people, and many of those will be people saying "Oh yeah, I wanted to play this, when will it be done?" It doesn't matter who you are, if you gain popularity, it will happen.

It just kind of escalates from there with more and more people wanting to be done sooner and sooner, thinking they are entitled, or that the work is easy, or some other lame excuse for being impatient. It's lame when translators give in to those people and quit though.

Wow, did they actually take down all of their translations down too? Dick move.

And this is a terrible reason to close shop. Trolls will always exist, no matter if you're the best goddamn translator known to all man-kind.

I wonder what they'll do in the future, but I really did admire their work on Saga 3. Clean enough for a retail release, in my opinion.

The SaGa 2 translation (version 2.11, which I think was the latest) is still up on filetrip, at least for now. As far as I know, that is their only finished project.

I couldn't agree with you more. I faced a lot of "Hurry up", "You're fail for not adding what I wanted into the first patch", "When will you be finished?" type of questions, but ranting or telling them to fuck off is more suitable than a permanent quit.

We've turned down interviews, but people still make articles on our translations, anyway. Sure, it irritates the hell out of us, but we can't let that make us forget why we translate in the first place.

One thing I learned since I've been a translator/romhacker is that not everyone will be grateful. It bugged me quite a bit how low people could be, but the supportive people far outweighed the idiots and crybabies. I translate to make the fans happy. The good, the bad and the ugly, unfortunately. Our motivation are the supporters who truly are grateful. Ragequitting because of the bad support is only going to make the actual supporters pay the price.

Bringing so much attention to yourself to try and give the group some fame is exactly what you're going to get, but it won't always be good attention.

Its a shame, but I don't blame them. Even if I'll never get to play Summon Night X: Tears Crown. [IMG]

Everyone in the team would have real life to deal with, I know Neo was paying for site hosting out of his own pocket, and as he said, there is always jerks that want, want, WANT.

No, but a few people asking can be annoying enough already. ;>

What do you think all the people from video game companies do think when they start localising a game, the game gets announced, they stumble across certain difficulties, have to change the release date to some later date, people start bombarding them with complains, after the game gets released a ton of people doesn't even buy their games but instead download them and THEN they even complain more because there's no Japanese voice overs or the font annoys them or WHATEVER.

Sure, they get money for their work, but they also pay money for doing their work (buying licenses, paying translators, voice actors etc) and if everyone keeps only downloading the games instead of paying for them, that's far worse.

Anyways. If you don't want to get annoyed, don't try to be famous. End of story. Crimson Nocturnal or rather Neoxephon has in my opinion been willingly drawing attention to the group. A comment option for each news on the front page? A contact email openly available? Their own message board?

Sorry but seriously, negative feedback is bound to happen with all those factors.

Imo one shouldn't post any word on their work until it's done, if they want to avoid trolls.

Seems like a cop out to me. I did have a decent time messing with Saga 2, I'll admit, but using some whiners as an excuse to close shop is sad. Falling into the category of why this scene will never evolve. I could see past 2 of the 4 attempted projects dropped since that is what 95% of translations end up being and I dealt with the endless website changes cause I get one person funding em is a pain, but it is a disappointment just saying screw it all and the community over a small percent of whiner/noobs. Especially after the already mentioned interview attention they obviously wanted, but could not handle. Pretty sure this falls in line with what Absolute Zero was talking about when he wrote about the state of things in this community. Translators and fans alike. Sad stuff people.

Well that was pretty hilarious to read. Whilst I find it a bit disappointing that they caved in to the pressure (I was looking forward to Summon Night X in particular), it was most definitely self-inflicted. I just hope this serves as a lesson to everyone else in the community ;x

Man, I must've checked the date ten times, in the hopes that it might be an april fool's joke.

This is a real shame, Crimson Nocturnal was absolute quality. However, I kinda doubt their reasons. I suspect that there is something else going on.

I agree with both you guys...

I can't believe a translation group that's done this much great work would just quit everything because of some pathetic trolls.

I mean I'm sure EVERY translation group or similar fan-group has constant trolls asking when the project is done, why they aren't going faster, etc..
But to QUIT because of that criticism? To me, it just seems like a rash decision, and it's a huge shame.

But whatever, completely their choice and we all have to respect it. I was looking forward to finally playing a proper Summon Night game in english, but guess it'll never happen.

This is truly a sad news. I do hope that the SaGa3 project will go on in a form or another, though.

I doubt there are so many noobs could whine. I believe that those idiot trolls hardly to figure out how to patch file. How could someone that have a good spirit to do a great job couldn't bare those idiot? However, I respect Project owner decision.

    Good luck to you.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I was hugely excited that Summon Knight X was getting fan translated. My faith in them was cemented when they put out the patch for SaGa 2. I never even realized that they had any trolls. I wish I had actually been vocal in my support for them. Still, it's their work and I have to respect their decision to cancel their translations.
