I don't think the wobble is bad at all. It gives the hinge a little "give" and lets it basically live longer.

My 3DS doesn't do that though...

so who has the "defective" version, lol. the slight 'give' or sturdy???
Actually, I meant in normal gameplay. I did your wobble tutorial, and it does go up if you push the screen up a bit.

yeah, it feels good and sturdy in the normal position, but jerk it around and it wobbles a bit so as to not fly off and break your 3D glasses.

I was going to try and get mine replaced but I read that they are supposed to be a bit loose so that it doesn't have as much, for lack of a better word, force on it. The problem with the DS Lite hinges was that the screen was too tight in place and it had so much "force" on it when opened and closed that it snapped.

A manufacture of a device should never make excuses for its short comings. It should NEVER wobble bc it screws up the 3D effect for the end user.

Easy to move is one thing, wobble on a device that you have a limited field of view is unacceptable. How do they expect you to play it with satisfaction if you can rarely achieve the effect that they set out to create?

Do they expect every user to remain perfect still while pressing or smashing buttons? BS. It should just work correctly, especially at the $250 price tag that comes with it.

I would expect stupid faults at a $80 handheld device, but at $250, that is unacceptable for anyone to feel any less than satisfied with what that user has purchased. I know I'd be pissed and return it. But then again, this is only the first gen of the 3DS, they will try to make it right on the next gen. Everyone just wait for the second gen and save your money until N figures their shit out and gets it right.

I don't know what kind of wobble you have but mine doesn't effect the 3D in the slightest. I am perfectly fine with the wobble if it stops my hinges from breaking. My wobble is about 2 cm and I can look at the 3D screen on full 3D setting and shake the device and I don't lose the effect.

Thank God you have magical eyes that can even work beyond the manufactures said specifications.

Just look at the "Field of view" that their manual even says. 2 cm of flop is out of their own specified range.

The variable for the calculation of the 3d effect is the distance between your eyes. (Using some trig and photo analysis the 3DS can also calculate the distance to an object.)

The screen on the 3DS displays slanted pixels in the horizontal direction to show two different pictures for your eyes.

The only way to mess up your 3D effect would be to tilt the screen in the horizontal direction or change the distance between your eyes (or separation between cameras).

Screen wobble in the vertical direction does not effect your 3D image.

As for an answer to the poll, yes my screen does have a bit of wobble.

It was a typo, its supposed to say 1 cm. Also, there is such thing as slightly moving your head with the screen in the very few intances where the screen actually flops during gameplay. And if I am not mistaken, the 3D is not effected by vertical movement
nearly as easily as horizontal.
No need to be so rude about it, I was just giving my input.

EDIT: Guy above beat me to vertical-horizontal point.

so it seems most people have screen wobble while others are sturdy, it should be uniform. I am definitely going to try to get a replacement and see what happens.

Thanks DeadlyFoez and everyone else for your insight.

Really? The OP's method of making it wobble should have absolutely NO effect on the 3d AT ALL, it said to give a little bit of force with the fingers. if i rock my 3DS back and forth my top doesn't wobble at all.

Mine wobbles 2-3 millimeters when i give enough force to move the top screen into the 2nd click; but if I'm holding it normally (like older DSs), the top screen doesn't wobble.

As for the video, i'd say it wobbles about 1/4 of OP's video... that video's top is REALLY wobbly, i'd say.

So I'm going to have to say no. it's really minimal and it doesn't affect the gameplay at all.

the question is, is this normal? did nintendo purposely design it this way. I feel like shelling out $250 for a handheld that has even slight wobble brand new, is unacceptable. Again I'm going to try to get a replacement and see how that one fairs, I'm also going to contact Nintendo about the matter.

Mine has a slight wobble to it, but nothing compared to the video, so I voted no. Considering I never encountered it during normal play, it's a non-issue, to me.

Actually, after re-reading the first post, I'm glad I picked no. My screen only has the tiniest of wobble forward, not back like yours. (By forward, I mean toward me.)
