I'll try mapping it to a classic controller later today and post my results. I made a few adjustments for my GC controller.

Does that mean you have it working with the GC controller? If so, send that thing my way lol.

The amount of ignorance in this thread is unbelievable.

I suppose nobody here reads reviews but even among them the general consensus seems to be that motion controls do work, but they do have their flaws (precision) and nobody understands why CC wasn't implemented. Most likely this was rather a Nintendo than Retro decision. With the amount of polish that went into this game ands surprising they just left out the CC support, wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo forced some waggle in there.

Anyway, you like motion controls? Thats fine, I like them in lots of games but I played DKCR on Dolphin without them and I can't deny that the traditional way seems far more appealing to me.

Hoping someone will release a patch as this would take out the (for me personally) biggest flaw of the game.

If anyone is interested in this, the best place to check for any code updates would be the GeckoCodes page for DKCR.

Right now, it looks like someone has put up code that allows use of the Wiimote B button instead of motion controls. I'll be more interested with a classic controller hack, but this could be great news for many!

Code:
B For Pound Down-B for Blow B+Directional for Roll [Thomas83Lin]
285CBE68 FBFF0400
025CBE6E 0000012C
E0000000 80008000
*Wiimote Horizontal*
*Player 1*

B For Pound Down-B for Blow B+Directional for Roll [Thomas83Lin]
285CC4F0 FBFF0400
025CC4F6 0000012C
E0000000 80008000
*Wiimote Horizontal*
*Player 2*

I just noticed that this topic has already had a fair amount of views (3,675) so it seems there's quite a demand for this hack.

I wouldn't say that the waggle is game-breaking, but it's certainly not perfect. I've lost quite a few lives because of inconsistent responsiveness of the motion controls. Some shakes will go unrecognized, especially for those used to the sensitivity of Mario Galaxy's waggle for Mario's Spin maneuver.

I think mapping it to a button would be much more practical, and it does seem odd that Retro decided to leave out a fully button-based option... Especially since Donkey Kong Country Returns is a revival of a SNES game, which suits the Classic Controller perfectly!

I'm quite tempted to use these Ocarina codes to see how they work.

So... This topic in review

Side 1: We don't like motion controls. We want classic controller controls.
Side 2: Are you trying to say that the only right way to play is with classic controls? That's ridiculous! There's no right way to play the game! That's why you should use the motion controls. Because they're the right way!
Side 1: But... You just said there IS no right way!
Side 2 puts their fingers in their ears.
Side 2: LALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!
Side 3: I'm neutral.
Side 4: Why does everyone have to complain so much?! AUGH! I HATE COMPLAINERS! ALWAYS RUINING MY SITE, AND MAKING ME READ TOPICS!

Works like a charm!! Would still perfer GC/CC support but this is still 10x better then the waggle remots. DKCR truly is GOTY potential without the crap controls. Thanks alot!

Can someone post the steps to do it? Where do we put the cheats? Do we have to burn this game to a disc and play it through GeckoOS ?
Thanks.

How to use ocarina:
1) Go to http://geckocodes.org.
2) Go to the page of your game (in this case: http://geckocodes.org/index.php?c=SF8E01)
3) On the top, click
gct.png

4) Click "Add Codes" (not "Add More Codes")
5) Select all codes you want to activate
6) When done, click "Download GCT"
7) Place the gct file on the location where your USB loader wants it (different for every loader).
8) Activate Ocarina in your USB loader.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
