Yes it is safe to install. Jut updated to 4.0u & using the custom cios ios38 rev 13b myself. You will still be on 3.1 if you install the all the related application. Go to the first page of this thread if you want to upgrade online or offline.

i ran homebrew channel today and it updated when i was using system 3.4...
i then ran the upgrade to 4.0 as it said in the guide, i now have a system running with version 4.0e .....
BUT i cant run the homebrew channel now... so i cant patch ios60, nor run any other app :s if i try and run homebrew channel via bootmii it does the same thing ( black screen and nothing happens )

Any ideas?

Why I must use Wad Manager IOS35 version for Wii with 4.0?
Cant I just use the old Wad Manager IOS16 version?
Is it that in new Wii, IOS16 is patched by Nintendo?
Then why dont just install the old version of IOS16 using WAD Batch Installer?
WAD Batch Installer will auto install IOS16 and cIOS249.
If we use WAD Batch Installer, do we still need to patch IOS35 and then use WAD Manager with IOS35?

You probably didn't update the hbc along with bootmii or something. Try running the hackmii installer again (via bannerbomb since youre hbc isn't loading) and install the new version of hbc (1.0.3)

The point of using IOS35 on 4.0 is because there is an application that let's you downgrade it. From 4.0 you can't install a vulnerable IOS16 and as such you can't use IOS16 through wad manager to install anything. The whole idea behind downgrading something is just to get a vulnerable IOS that wad manager can use to install some sort of cIOS (generally in the form of cios_fix.wad) so you can then normally install an updated cIOS version through one of waninkoko's cIOS rev __ installers, and on 4.0, IOS16 won't be that IOS to use. Using IOS16 will still work to install and run wad manager off of on Wii's 3.4 or below, but on 4.0 your only option is using IOS35 (or cboot2 I think, but that's only necessary for like LU64+ Wii's and what not.)

From 4.0 I cannot install a vulnerable IOS16?
What happen if install IOS16 to a homebrewable 4.0? Will it brick?

Few quick q's. I asked earlier about the cios thing not working. I...probably installed a cIOS...not sure but wutever. We'll see what happens. But before I burn discs or buy a USB drive do I need to patch games, and do I need a USB in the Wii for the USB loader GX to work? I also need to say use cIOS 249 right? I'll ask in the backup loaders place if that's better, but figured I'd ask here since I used this method.

I don't think it would brick you, but I don't think it would let you install it either to begin with. Are you having some sort of problem with IOS35 or something? In essence it's the same thing. You're installing an IOS to have wad manager use to install cios_fix.wad. The only difference in this case is that you have to run something to downgrade the existing IOS35 first and then install the vulnerable IOS35, also the number of the IOS is different of course.

You shouldn't need to patch games generally and you COULD just transfer any .iso's of games you have directly to your usb drive through WBFS manager. A USB device clearly must be present for USB loader GX or any USB loader to...load from. You have it use IOS 249 if that is the cIOS you installed (generally it will be as long as you used Waninkoko's cIOS installer) Pretty much the only other option would be if you had used Hermes' cIOS installer that installs to IOS 222 or 223. You shouldn't really need that though as that was basically just to fix usb device support which was fixed in more recent cIOS revisions from Waninkoko. So yes use IOS249.

Why I cant install IOS16 to a Wii 4.0? Because IOS16 is now a stub? Reinstall of patchmii overwrite the stubbed IOS254, right?
Or u mean I cant install anything into a stubbed location? If that the case, Nintendo should just stub IOS249. Most application will then have to be re-writed to allow loading from other IOS location.

Tried to do the CIOS60BF.wad, locked up while "restarting wii" power-cycled. Now get a black screen on bootup and no preloader...

U bricked your Wii - If u don't have Bootmii in boot2 installed your Wii is screwed...
Why don't you have installed preloader prior installing the WAD - the next step in the guide is this:

QUOTE4) Your system menu will now say "System Files Corrupt" but dont worry! just hold reset and launch the Homebrew Channel and install Preloader 0.29 AGAIN

Please can someone change the guide so that it starts with:
Prepare SD for Bannerbomb and Hackmii installer v.0.2
Start Bannerbomb - install bootmii in boot2 and IOS - install HBC

I DID have the preloader installed v0.29 to be exact, but part of the INSTRUCTIONS are to reinstall the preloader after the CIOS install...

So am I out of luck? There's no way to open it up and reflash it?

Ok. Quick question. After running through the "ONLINE METHOD".

How come I'm still on 3.2e?

i'm assuming wanikoko's updater failed. Did you actually check to see if it gave you any errors?

Yeah, had an error right at the end. ERROR! ret = -[Insert Random Numbers].

I'm re-trying to see if it works the 2nd time.

But the thing is, with the offline method when ever I run "CMDVDX35" it says "It seems to me you are a pirate. Bye...". What does that mean? :wtf:
