Just got my Acekard 2 from OZmodchip and the service was quick. Ordered yesterday, delivery today
smile.gif

The card was very easy to setup.
Downloaded the software from acekard websit along with moonshell and some skins.
Copied some games on and all running well so far.

First impression of the menu screens is that they are excellent, very easy to use and very easy to change skins.

No regrets getting acekard 2. So far I would say I like it better than my R4.

Who would pay more for a R4 when you can get an acekard 2.

If you are waiting for the R4 to comedown in price or back in stock, take the plunge and buy a acekard 2

for that price you could've gotten 8 x Acekard 2 + 1gb micro sd

So Swip where can you get Acekard 2 + 1gb micro sd for $37 Aust?

I looked around and couldn't find many that had them in stock.

Dealextreme
Acekard 2 ($31.10) x 8 = $248.8
1gb micro sd ($6.99) x 8 = $55.92

Total :$304.72 =
$334.050 AUD

Yes but you are comparing us to a bunch of guys in Hong Kong.
1 day later he has his products. If you want the fastest shipping with DX he is going to have to pay for EMS, and even then he wouldn't get it for 1 week or so after they shipped, which would be 2~3 days after he placed the order if they do have stock.

I don't argue that their prices are cheap. If we where in hong kong i would hire a million low skilled workers and pay them $80 USD a month - because thats how much it costs.

Our service in Australia is the best.
Your prices include GST, as we need to give 10% to the government on every sale - DX don't
Our warranty is local.
Anyone tried to get a replacement flash card from DX? How long did it take? You have a warranty, but try and use it.

If you don't have a 9~5 job, and struggle for money then for sure, buy from HK. Buy everything form Hong Kong, because everything is cheaper.
But the older you get, the more you will realize that price is not always the most important factor.

One important thing is DX is out of stock. So therefore I couldn't get them for that price.
Ozmodchips was the only one that had them available, at a reasonable price, that I was willing to order from and I could get them quick. Gee the next day.

It's just getting harder to get carts. The manufactures can't keep up with the demand. As soon as they stores advertise stock they are snapped up.

If time and availability was not an issue I would have probably ordered from DX, ordered from them in the past for R4s. OzModchips does provide an excellent service in Aust, customer service is great at a resonable local price. I will continue using and recommending him.

I have heard of some stores locally selling R4s with 1 gig over the counter for $160 to mums and dads.

If I was buying several units like the OP, and didn't need them the next day, I see no reason to waste the extra money (over 100USD in the OP's case) for the same product. Not sure how much you're raking in from the modchip business, but I do know that I personally haven't reached the level of success where I can completely disregard hundreds of dollars (and no, I'm not "struggling for money"; plus the only people who take 9~5 jobs are those who don't know better, or don't value their life enough to find a better living

).

Not saying that I don't value customer service (which I've heard is quite good from your shop) and giving support to the local dealers, but thats fairly pretentious of you to try and demean people who want to save some money by ordering from a competing dealer.

Thats very true, thats less than a day of work to get your order the next day instead of a week.

I'm just saying that people that have money want their products now. If the opportunity cost of saving money is getting your products over a week later....then its up to the user to figure out if its worth it.

At the end of the day, we are selling a device that is used for entertainment.
1 week more of entertainment isn't for $25 dollars per person? Hell I went to see a shitty movie at the cinemas last week and spent $15 aud on a ticket, and over $10 on popcorn and some other junk. And that was for less than 2 hours of entertainment.

Hell, our entertainment is expensive. You should've downloaded the movie... but in any case, service is a very important factor. Since everything is made in China, you've still gotta watch out for reliability, and if your warranty is dodgy, you could possibly end up with a dead card and $50 out of pocket.

Onesies, twosies or really urgent? Local is probably the way to go.

If a group of n people want to get together and pool risks, then purchasing n+1 or n+2 of a quality product with a low failure rate and keeping the excess aside as spares for "warranty replacements" is probably a good way to go - no RMAs to deal with, no delays etc, and the price can still be significantly lower than sourcing them locally. If one fails after a month or three, write it off. Get a duff batch or product (like the killler n5 - but then, you'd have to be nuts to buy an unknown product for that kind of pooling anyway) and that theory goes right out the window, but my experiences with the R4 in this kind of situation have been very good. They should be similar for any other good-quality card that's had its production processes go through the teething period.

Of course, that all depends on whether or not you could be bothered going to all that trouble. Many can't, and I can't say I really blame them.

My first DS cart was purchased from gamers wonder because they were reasonably local and had a good price at the time - and I had it a couple of days later. When friends started asking about carts, I looked to overseas suppliers except for a number of "want it RIGHT NOW" ones I had to get locally and ended up getting from ozmodchips a short while back (not AK2s - something else).

Both ways of purchasing have their attractions and benefits, and neither is necessarily "right" for all purchasers or under all circumstances. If you want something in a day or three instead of next month, ozmodchips is really great to deal with and I intend doing business there whenever I need to. If you and a bunch of mates can come to an agreement which saves you all a little money and means there's a spare just waiting should it be needed, then that can be a good way to go too. It all depends on where your priorities lie.
