Is there a forum for all these new retro handhelds?

Should stay under “other” until one of significant impact and longevity enters the market.
Well we won't find it unless the Tempers are on it... :tpi:

I do somewhat agree though as there is a plethora of them that mostly play 2d and maybe ps2, wii era stuff quite well but I've found that my phone is superior to most of them.

The little Anbernic 556 looks good tho, just can't justify spending that on a gamble!

I agree to an extent. I personally have an Anbernic RG5XX and did a custom firmware flash for Garlic OS. It would be nice to have a forum here dedicated to such information but I also understand we are niche users even on this forum. Truly a niche within a niche

This is a weird one. Cuz we tend to only make subforums for things that really demand a need to have their own section. But would having a dedicated subforum get people talking more about these things? Or are the reviews that our staff do enough of a page for discussion? Would a group work better for this kind of thing? It's an awkward one.

I think it'd be best to wait a year or two. These handheld are too new too understand their impact.

Just make a Portables Forum already.
Groups would exclude those who want to talk about these but not join a group.

A group could be definitely more invasive with notifications than a proper Forum with dedicated threads.

I think a lot of these systems fall under some weirdness since they are kind of all over the place. Some of them run Android, some run Linux, and others might run their own OS. Under normal circumstances, a subforum tends to belong to a rather constant base, that is to say, the 3DS is going to have 3DS OS for example. When you break them down into different CFWs, software, etc. it's all still the same base OS, software, etc.
With these handhelds, you would have to break down the sections to work with the different operating systems and software.

Sure, that's not all required but it is something to consider. I honestly think "other," Android, or groups might just work better until there's something more constant.

It's hard to tell how popular they are on this site as most of the threads get spammed by haters. Personally, I would split Handhelds off from Phones and Tablets, rather than leave it to users to make a group for each specific device.

I don't speak for the staff but if a group remains active for a long time and has useful information in it then it might be promoted to a section. It would be nice to see a section for handheld emulation devices and another section for the Steam Deck and other handheld PC gaming tablets.
