Not sure if I should try ...

I completed 1 and 2 not long ago and got kinda annoyed as those old games were not only hard but also confusing... I did start part 3 (of course not the remake) but at some point I just didn't really want to go on.

Got stuck so often in the previous ones even with faqs as I often didn't know where to go or what to do and it didn't feel any less confusing in part 3.

Do they have any modern helpful features like optional quest markers or build in hints or something like that ? also is the remake as grindy as the originals?
With part 1 and 2 some people were like "yeah I easily did it on level 18" while I couldn't even beat the final boss on 26 xD
3 was a big jump forward for the series. It still has grinding but far from the level of 1 and 2, Lot more obvious where you have to go so you won't be wondering around for hours trying to find out where to go, and is just overall a big improvement.

none of the first three, the android ports on the switch (where I played them) were too bad; even the grinding wasn't that bad. I only had to consult a guide once, and that was with part 3 ironically. I don't consult guides with any games until I've beaten them, but this was to get the sun stone. I had crossed the world multiple times trying to find it, at least I think it was the sun stone.

it so happens to be through a hidden wall. you have to hug the left corner of one of the walls in Tantagel or whatever castle to find the room with it. I don't remember the one on the nes, so I was stuck on that for hours. it's hard to see the doors in this remake, except now they have red carpets in front of the doorway, so even if you can't move the camera to see the doorway, you'll know it's there.

What a gorgeous OST. This trailer reminded me how much fun I had with DQ5, 8 and 9. 7 for 3DS and XI for PS4 are still waiting on shelf in queue.
Haven't played the 7 remake yet but played the original (was my first DQ game, was called Dragon Warrior at that time in the US) had an excellent story but had very bad pacing issues which they fixed on the 3DS port. XI is just an awesome game, would recommend that to the fullest!

Dragon Warrior was my absolute first rpg as a kid. I followed up with 2 and 3 as soon as I could back on original hardware. I loved every moment of them all, but 3 was definitely my favorite. I can't wait to own them all.

I'm actually playing through VIII right now. :D

Never played a dragon quest game in my life before but always interested… should I play this one first or DQXI first 🤔?
Honestly, play through XI. Most of them aren't linked to each other other than small superficial links. XI is just fantastic. You shouldn't wait if you can play it now. But, be warned. It's very long, not including side content. I never got bored with it though.

this could potentially be the easiest dragon quest of them all. I noticed that it auto saves after every battle. they really dumbed it down here. I love the game, yes, but they really shouldn't have tossed out the difficulty. despite being able to select your difficulty, saving after every battle negates any sort of real challenge.

You're not forced to use the autosave are you? The real challenge is still there if you want it. It's good they kept the original means of saving if only for that.

don't get me wrong, the game is still very good. I just wish they hadn't made it so much easier. I didn't find the android ports all that challenging either, but you do get a lot of those seeds in this game, when you come across those sparkling areas on the overworld, which can make your characters very strong early on. I see that they're remaking Dragon Quest I and II in this style as well based on the playstation shop placeholder with "just announced." I'll definitely be getting it once released. I just hope it's more traditional, at least do away with the constant auto-saving at least.

A good middle ground could just be adding a further difficulty option that disables autosave when you use it, and swap out certain items in the overworld. The crux of that would be that you wouldn't be able to switch to and from it so seamlessly, but having it as some kind of classic or "hardcore" mode could actually be pretty fun.
