Hi there,I just did a region swap from my japanese N3ds to a USA firmware following the Region Changing - 3DS Hacks Guide.
Everything went well but I seem to have lost my Mii plaza data and the my friend list.
Is this normal behavior or should I be concerned I messed it up?If
I did mess it up can I recover it with the nand backup I made in the previous step or is it gone with the wind?
Thank you for your time.
From what little search I did if you have the old nand you could extract it and inject into the new region changed nand without having to restore the full nand backup. I'm not that knowleadgeable when it's about miis and things like that but here's some screenshots that might be useful. Be careful though. I didn't find anything recent so I don't know if things have changed or not so do it at your own risk

Edit: here's some more detailed info https://gbatemp.net/threads/manual-system-transfer-for-saves-content.388033/

Never owned or know much about the 3DS so apologies if a little noobish.

If I don't have an Nintendo account with no purchases on the eshop, would buying a foreign console (Japanese New LL) and changing it to UK region have any ill-sided effects post-closure?

I did read that I wouldn't be able to update games, could I still 'sideload' the updates or would I still need to jailbreak to update them?

There's only a few games that I missed out on and got hold of recently but don't have a console yet and deciding whether to see if I can save a few quid by buying an import.
Not really, no. If you don't intend to buy from the eshop then you can go right on ahead and play anything from any region using CFW. You can still do the updates, you just need to find those updates separately and then install them the same way you install the base games.

Remember, you can no longer make purchases from the 3DS eShop. So, you need to find the games elsewhere, of which I can't say what sites to go to for that.

Hi guys,

so few days ago I hacked my N3ds XL 11.4.0-35U. These are steps that I think I need to mention:
- backed up 4 GB toshiba, and paste all of its content to fat32 formated 64GB samsung evo.
- followed 3ds hacks guide. 1 thing that I do different is, I wasn't using fresh SD card. So when the guide said that mii maker save data is in the very first page, mine is probably in last page or something (I didn't press a button or touch the tourch panel, but I know my mii maker data is there) and I still follow everything as writtern in the guide.
- Then I followed next steps and didn't encounter any problem.

after finalizing setups, I transfered few .cia files to the SD card. when I open FBI, I think it froze because it stays too long on black screen. I restarted the 3DS, and this time I can open FBI successfuly.
Then I installed new super mario bros 2. When I tap the gift box it froze again. I restarted the 3ds again, and I can played the game without problem after that.
Still no clue what cause the freeze, I tought I need to check Universal Updater. Tapped the app to open it, and it froze again. black screen. restarted the 3ds again, and no frezee until now

Still confused what cause the occasional freeze. is it because I didn't install luma with a fresh SD card?
There are 3 freezes so far:
- when I opened giftbox for the first time
- when I opened FBI for the first time
- when I opened universal updater for the first time

I played mario for few hours, installed few new games, opened FBI and universal updater again, installed twilight and played okamiden. no more freeze so far.
Any idea what cause the freeze? is it normal?

--- EDIT ---

On the other hand, I the 3DS has A button issue where it not registering sometimes, so I opened it up, clean the rubber and found this on the ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard. tried cleaning it with contact cleaner but it doesn't come off. not sure if it corrosion or bent or cracked contact.

I don't know if this can cause the freeze either...

You are not supposed to install Luma with a fresh SD card. If you needed to do that, it would be in the Guide.

You should be more concerned about whether you tested your new SD card while it was empty before you started using it.

There are 3 freezes so far:
- when I opened giftbox for the first time
- when I opened FBI for the first time
- when I opened universal updater for the first time
More particularly, the freeze occurred when you opened NSMB2. I do dimly recall that one doesn't work correctly if you open it directly after running homebrew, but I can't seem to find the thread to that effect. (Maybe someone here remembers?) Certainly, no one figured out why that one game was acting unusually.

Thank you for the reply and the detailed steps. I had tried with JKSV and also just trying to force the save from /data/<ID0>/sysdata/00020208/ (JPN mii plaza) to /data/<ID0>/sysdata/00020218/ (US mii plaza) with godmode but I haven't tried decrypting a nand backup modifying it and restore it afterwards, sounds like it could work.

What software can I use to decrypt the nand backup? I tried ninfs but when used with the nand backup made by godmode9 (sysnand_00.bin) it opens up the nand like a folder with all the "sub-files" (ctrnand_full.img, essential.exefs, firm0.bin, nand.bin, etc). When I extract the nand.bin file and then mount that file it still give me the same selection of files (ctrnand_full.img, essential.exefs, firm0.bin, nand.bin, etc) it's like a loop, but I can't seem to get past that to reach the data folder that's supposedly inside the nand.bin file, so I'm might not be using the right software for this...

I did try to follow the guide there but even then I can seem to be able to mount the nand.bin file as a folder using "deamon tools" or "OFSMount" Windows doesn't seem able to open it.

edit: I tried using version 1.6 of ninfs like the guide suggested, I got all the files right but when mounting as a folder in "deamon" I get the following message "windows can't access this disc" soi'm sure I'm missing something trivial and dumb...

Not a thread from here, but there is an issue on Luma's repository about this.

It's actually the other way around: homebrew apps will crash when launched directly after NSMB2, so the person above likely gets freezes because of something else.

You can try Osfmount https://www.osforensics.com/tools/mount-disk-images.html

I did, but thsank you for the suggestion, I'll ask in the guide thread if someone can direct me to a solution.

cheers
Sorry, I was at work and just skimmed the message, I tried to mount the nand with ninfs latest version and it let me see the contents, there's a file called ctrnand_full which can be opened with WinImage or with daemon tools, it gets you access to the files like folders for example extdata or ro or rw. You can find SecureInfo_A in rw/sys for example. So you need to mount ctrnand_full, it should work with daemon tools.

aaahh maybe that was the problem I was using nand.bin and not ctrnand-full.
I'll give it a go after work, thanks!

I'm using that new MSET9 method to homebrew my old 3ds and I'm a bit confused on section 2 of the guide. Everything up to this point is completely fine, in my extra data section however, I don't see the mii maker icon. Not because it isn't there, but because I have a lot of extra data on my sd card. Due to this it gets pushed back to the 3rd page. I feel like it'll be fine if I go ahead and try the exploit but the guide specifies to follow things to a T. Is it alright if go ahead with section 2 even if my extra data section doesn't align exactly with the guide-provided image.

I think you'll have to delete some extra data until it gets to 1st page

So... I was just simply about to try out Shadow Master... until this error screen happened. I have never encountered this before when playing PS1 games. Would really appreciate any solution or even ideas as to what this could mean.

What I did is that I just deleted the extra data for mii maker and made a new one. Now it appears on the first page.

Nevermind, it didn't work. I'll just switch over to a clean sd card and then switch back to my main later.

So I've been trying to run Pokémon Y with romfs and exefs hacks I've made with pk3DS, but the game immediately crashes and gives me an error message about kujira-2 and exception 38. Game runs normally with game patches disabled.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

heya everyone,
i need help with my 3DS because i'm out of ideas...

I received a Pokémon Ultra Moon Rom from good a friend that he dumped for me, but the problem is that its the 4.2GB 3DS File...

I sadly can't convert it to CIA using my OG3DS, so now my question is:
How do i either split the File or Trim it properly using my PC, if possible so that i can finally convert it on my 3DS?

I have a 32GB SD-Card ready to go, GM9, Luma and B9S installed already on my Blue 3DS (OG, Small)
and i'm using Windows 10 on my PC...

Is there any tool or method to trim/split 3DS Files for Windows or would that be Linux-Only?
