Famous and beloved manga creator Akira Toriyama has passed away at the age of 68. According to an official blog post made by Bird Studio--Toriyama's manga company--he passed away on March 1st, of an acute subdural hematoma. He was known for a wide variety of works, most notably as the creator of the Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump manga series, and having an influential affect on the industry. Toriyama also contributed as an art director and character designer for video games such as the Dragon Quest Series, Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon, and more. He had several projects both announced and unannounced that he was currently working on, including the anime Dragon Ball Daima, and a video game based on a manga series, Sand Land.

What? It can't be, The One and Only Toriyama?! Nooo! 😢

I grew up watching Dragon Ball and then Dragon Ball Z and friggin' loved so much that I still am a fan of it.

This certainly means TOEI will be free to do as they wish and so DB is about to become TOEI's Star Wars.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Toriyama.

I'll check out Dragon Ball Daima, but once Masako Nozawa retires or sadly passes away I'll lose my interest as she's Goku and no one else.

Eiichiro Oda said on Twitter:

It’s just way too early.
The hole he has left is far too great.

I am crushed by an overwhelming sadness when I realize we will never see each other again.
I have admired him so much ever since I was a child.
I remember distinctly when he first called me by my name.
And when he called me and Kishimoto-san his “friends” on that day we were on the way back to our homes,
it brings back very fond memories.
I even remember the exact words we exchanged during our conversations too.

He alone passed the baton from the generation where people thought reading manga would make you stupid to the generation where manga could be enjoyed by all, children and adults alike.
He showed us a dream, that manga can do so many things, that it can connect you to the world.
It was like watching a superhero come to life.

However, his work was not just limited to manga.
The excitement and emotions felt through the Dragon Ball series will forever take root in the youth of the creators of this industry.
His existence is like that of a great tree.

For all the manga artists of my generation, as we got closer to standing on the same stage as him, Toriyama’s work became an even greater presence that we felt deeply. It was almost scary.
But it always made us happy to see him in person with his carefree attitude.
Our love for Toriyama-sensei runs in the blood through our veins.

With the creative world that Toriyama-sensei left behind in this world, I pray from the bottom of heart with respect and gratitude that he rest in peace.

May the Heaven he envisioned be a most joyous place for him.

Oh poor thing! I grew up watching Dr. Slump and Arale, typical characters of certain japanese demential irony and one of the first anime of the genre that I remember (aside from R.Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura): characters that entered my young heart and that I have never forgotten, influencing my ironic and provocative streak. R.I.P. dear mangaka master. 🙏 😑

Very sad considering that Dragon Ball was very successful in my country as an anime. I mean, it still airs from time to time on TV to this very day!

An artist with immortal work that will be enjoyed for many generations to come. Way too young, very heart breaking, my condolences to the family, friends and the huge amount of fans. This week sucked.

Without this man, i probably wouldn't be into anime, jrpgs and such. I love Dragon Ball and the Dragon Quest series. Chrono Trigger is still dear to my heart. Without Dragon Quest, Pokémon (and in relation to that: Palworld) wouldn't even probably existed

So, this is what happens when legends die. The world gets a little more colorless.

I did not like the man's style, but he was a tremendous influence to millions.

May he never be forgotten. Not even by me.
