Bandai Namco has today aired a new trailer for their upcoming action-RPG based Akira Toriyama's manga. This 9-minute video provides an overview of the gameplay elements:

Dive into a desert world where both humans and demons suffer from an extreme water shortage – SAND LAND. Meet the Fiend Prince Beelzebub, his chaperone Thief, and the fearless Sheriff Rao, and follow the team in an extraordinary adventure in search of the Legendary Spring hidden in the desert.

In this Action-RPG, you will become the main character Beelzebub, and learn how to control his demonic powers as you lead your company of heroic misfits while exploring the legendary world of SAND LAND. Use your tact and imagination to develop tanks and other vehicles that will help you navigate this ruthless land, and build up your base of operations into a thriving city, bringing back water to the land!

Key features of Sand Land include:
  • EMBARK ON AN EPIC JOURNEY: Take off on a bumpy adventure written and designed by the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama. Discover the unique art style that flows through the game, follow the character’s crazy saga, and let yourself be carried away by this original story of friendship and justice.
  • ADVENTURE BEYOND THE DUNES: Explore the world and search every nook and cranny to loot essential materials that will help the team take on harder and harder challenges.
  • VEHICLES FROM BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION: Unlock vehicles that can be levelled-up with various mechanic parts, including weapons, engines and suspensions. Design and operate a large variety of vehicles, including Battle Tanks with powerful cannons, Motorbikes that speed through deserts, and Jump-Bots that bounce over craters to explore every corner of the continent.
  • YOUR LAND, YOUR STYLE: Become Beelzebub, master his demonic powers and develop his fighting abilities to match your playstyle. Build and customize all your vehicles to your taste and style including the paint job! Save Sand Land your way and in style while doing it!
  • BECOME THE SAVIOR THE WORLD NEEDS: Develop the basecamp in the city of Spino, as you build relationships with its inhabitants. Watch the town and its capabilities grow, as you bring back the exiled people of the desert so Spino. Listen to their requests and wishes, and unlock useful materials and city features, that will help you make the SAND LAND thrive again!
Sand Land will launch on April 26 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X and PC via Steam.

So maybe Im jumping the gun here, but based off of the explanation of game mechanics in the post, it sounds like they are ripping off the old Metal Max tank rpg games, and slapped Akira Toriyama art on it. lol :toot:

or wait which one came first: sandland or metal max? I'll watch the video...
extra edit: according to wikipedia the original run for the Sand Land manga was 2000s and Metal Max came out in 1991. Hmm.

well, it looks a lot better than adventures of dai.

but why are trailers today either completely devoid of gameplay or insanely long lists of literally every gameplay element?

as for the art style, yeah, it would not hurt the man to expand his palette a little, because everything DOES look very much the same at this point, but to be fair, sandland is already an old franchise and that look was decided on like 20 years ago

Akira's style always looked great to me.
While I haven't watched the video yet, I saw the original trailer, and my family is interested in seeing more.
Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, Dragonball, all great series with his art on the forefront.

Wow there are a whole lot of different systems at play here. Wonder if there's just one big overarching main quest or several side quests to pick up along the way, they didn't really cover that aspect of it. Looking good, though.

i mean, it looks like a typical chain of quests kinda game. go there, beat that, collect this, deliver here, eventually a boss of some sort.
i'd imagine somewhat like borderlands? couple quest givers, maybe a few hidden quests out in secret areas?

Looks more toward the open world side of things rather than linear and story-driven though, so that's where my confusion is coming from. Does say "listen to residents' requests and wishes," so that's something, but those may just be resource-gathering to improve the city, which probably overlaps with your main goal anyway.

Very much indeed reminds me of Metal Max. Love that series of games. (Metal Max 4 translation is still a work in progress, it will happen eventually)
