Finally after such a long wait (for my pre-order).
So far very impressed with what Sony had done with PS5.
1. Very low fan noise.
2. Load time for game is low.
3. Some PS4 games still have rather long load time (Maybe even longer than the wait between the start of download and the start of the game).
4. The difference between some PS4 games are drastic. Some look so very last gen while others looks fairly good on PS5.
5. Storage already full since yesterday. They should advertise the storage as 550GB, 825GB is marketing lie.
6. The controller kick ass.
7. Some PS4 games looks like may have been updated for PS5. Wonder if there is any marking somewhere for this?
8. Got used to the huge size of the console already. It does not look ugly as I have thought when I looked at pictures and when I seen it the first time in store.

Congrats!

I’m really liking the PS5...if only because it makes PS4 games run well. Had mine since Dec and I still haven’t played a PS5 title.
Yes, PS5 would be kind of sad without those enhanced PS4 games. I wish Sony had make fps cap a api call and just create a remove PS4 fps cap option in the OS. I think fps cap cause some game to play worst on PS5.

It's not something Sony can just toggle on or off for all games, unfortunately. Developers have to patch/update each of their games individually to remove the FPS cap and unlock higher output resolutions.

Fps caps should be easy if it does not break the game. A OS option would be nice. Enable this for people to try. If the game company make an official 60fps patch they have to tested it. If game company just allow gamer to try it with this OS option and don't take any responsibility when this option don't work we are all better off to have this option which we can activate if we care to try.

They should be easy to remove, yeah, but you're severely underestimating how little effort a lot of developers/publishers are willing to put in when there's no extra profit to be gained.

There's also the matter of a lot of studios having long since moved on to other projects, or developers splitting up. Most stuff will eventually be updated to play better on PS5, but some games will forever remain best played on PC, without the FPS cap.

PC version may well have better game resource than PS4 version too (texture etc). PC's problem is HDR. HDR makes quite a difference to the appearance of games and most games on PC don't have it.

PC is now way behind every other platform for playing video. A MediaTek chip that cost less than $10 can probably do better than PC.

PC version has this other problem that timing isn't fine tuned. Same case for most PS4 game on PS5.

I wish the PS5 had an option to automatically toggle HDR off on titles that don't support it and switching it on for titles that do like how it does it on the PS4, instead it just applies universal HDR across all games even ones that didn't support it originally. I don't like that fake HDR. And going into the settings to switch it on and off is a hassle.

My solution is simply not having any HDR-capable displays.

You can switch HDR off and it'll toggle it off for all games.

But there is games that have a really nice HDR like Resident Evil Remakes which is vastly superior to SDR especially with an OLED display :yay:. But switching it on and off on a per game basis in the settings is a pain.

My issue is PS5 applying HDR to games that didn't originally support it natively. So you get fake HDR. I want the PS5 to treat it like how the PS4 treats it. Automatic switching for games that support it natively and off for games that didn't.

I love the way PS4 games look on PS5 including those which don't have HDR. Maybe the problem is with the TV as I don't see what people are complaining about HDR. I only have problem with some video being too bright when it is not in HDR. A brightness control on the PS5 side for SDR per app (game is fine for me only video app that has problem) would be nice.

You can just turn up the brightness for SDR if you want a brighter image.

The problem is games that weren't originally mastered in HDR, the PS5 has to do alot of guess work on how to apply that HDR for a fake effect and sometimes that guess work doesn't work well. You just get a bright image, which you can do in SDR just by turning up the brightness but get a overall better image.

For HDR the brightness needs to be set to max for black to look right. The TV does have some kind of auto adjustment though. I can see that in action occasionally when the screen brighten or darken when it is not suppose to when playing video.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think there is some advance handshaking between TV and PS5. Earlier I have encountered some nasty bug (which is not clear whether it is TV or PS5's fault). The screen is black and I was thinking PS5 has failed. I try all kinds of actions on PS5 with no improvement until I saw a note on Sony's web site telling people to reset the TV and that did the trick.

The feature that TV input from PS5 being enabled would turn on PS5 is not appreciated. If I have last used the TV with PS5 turning on the TV would turn on PS5.

The behavior with power outage also could be improved though it is better than PS4 by virtue of having a faster storage.

PS5 probably doesn't do alot guess work and looks to display SDR in a HDR container. But it's a hit and miss.

I think SDR should stay SDR and HDR should stay HDR. That's how I want things to be handled. Give people the option to have it always on. And for people that don't give them a toggle so they can have it like how the PS4 treats HDR.

The PS5 was not ready for launch too many bugs. I had an audio issue where only half of the sound effects was playing. And I had to toggle some audio settings in the PS5 to fix it. The PS5 auto detection wasn't working properly.

This sending out the video signal as HDR for everything is odd. Most equipment I am aware of (PC being the exception) send out SDR signal and let the TV handle how to show it rather than converting SDR into HDR.

PC case makes sense as there can be a mix of HDR and SDR content. Sony has no good reason.

It is odd. And I don't like that the PS5 does this. Some people do like it so give them the option to have it always on. But for people like me I don't. PS4 was superior in this.

HDR is High Dynamic Range. It isn't High Brightness. High Brightness is needed for proper HDR effect, but High Brightness isn't what HDR is all about. If it was all about High Brightness then you can just turn up the Brightness for SDR all the way to max to magically get HDR but that's not how that works.

HDR is for peak highlights all the way down to dark shadow detail. And you need a high contrast display for proper HDR. If not then it looks awful and washed out. At least a display of a Contrast Ratio of 200,000:1 for the best HDR experience.

I actually should be saying backlight setting. For HDR content the TV needs all the back light it can get to support the bright part of the display. Brightness setting which does some kind of companding wasn't what I was thinking of. I always adjust backlight if I want to change the brightness of the screen. The brightness setting of the TV I leave it alone, it never really give any real benefit adjusting it. For OLED I suppose brightness really do mean brightness and other than on my phone I suppose there isn't really a reason to adjust it either as OLED is never too bright except when it is draining the battery.

I guess it may be the difference between OLED and LCD that create this dissatisfaction and satisfaction with the handing of SDR by PS5. If you have a HDR LCD TV maybe you can test this hypothesis. ( Maybe Sony didn't provide OLED display to the developers who did the code ).
