Sony PlayStation 5 Showcase: September event - price and release date confirmed

Today is the day, or so we hope. Sony is airing their latest PlayStation Showcase event that, hopefully, finally, gives us the PlayStation 5 launch date and retail price. Considering that Microsoft already revealed both of those bits of information for their next-gen console, it can only be expected that Sony would do the same. Only time will tell if this is the event we've been waiting for. Catch the livestream, which kicks off at 1pm PDT/9pm BST, and lasts for 40 minutes, giving us "one more look" at what the PlayStation 5 will offer.

don't count on it, it's gonna be like $700 for us

also why the hell is the disc version $100 more?

I already mention above if you missed. Here it is again:

Actually no.. Canada is more expensive.

Look:

During its PlayStation 5 Showcase, the company confirmed that the standard disc drive-equipped console will cost $499 USD (about $650 CAD), while the all-digital model will be priced at $399 USD (roughly $525 CAD).

It doesn't say it's more expensive in Canada, since they don't have any info yet.
American dollars and Canadian dollars are different currencies.

I was already completely determined to buy an Xbox Series S because I knew it would be a lot cheaper.

But now I'm in doubt if only a $ 99 difference is enough to justify the purchase of a console with considerably less hardware and that some developers are already complaining about the lack of RAM, Speed, GPU and that they will possibly suffer from bad optimizations throughout generation.

Other than that, the games that Sony showed excited me a lot, this event was great.

I wish it was 99$ difference in my "country".

Looking at the release dates for both the Xbox Series consoles and the Playstation 5 consoles, I now noticed this:
  • XBox Series consoles will release earlier, on November 10.
  • XBox Series S is priced at $299.
  • Playstation 5 consoles will release on November 12 at the earliest, then again on November 19 for the rest of the world.
  • Playstation 5 Digital Edition is priced at $399.
It seems that the Xbox consoles will have the advantage of being out two days earlier than their Playstation 5 competitor. There is also a $100 price difference between the two discless versions of both consoles.

that doesn't justify a ~$750cad price tag for the overall system
i can build a pc that absolutely rips this plastic garbage pale to shreds for that price.

not impressed with the price of this console
I really don't believe this, not at all.
Building a PC from zero is expensive, I do it sometimes.
But sure, whatever you say.

You know very well that you are paying quite above the dollar price in pounds.
Regarding US prices, they don't include taxes, while European prices already include all taxes within.
And you know VAT is high.

That said, yeah... life.

Used market is not the same as new products, and the prices of course are below, as well as the amount of work one has to do, and my time is more expensive than a PS5 (perhaps your time is cheaper). The comparison validity is void.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

wHAT SHAME! PS5 at launch, U guys have nothing but only fortnite and DMC5 which is just a port with dlc, Cold war will also available on XX and Pc mustard race.
This, and this also applies for the camouflaged PC plebeian race aka Xbox Series X.
Not many exclusives IMHO.
