Thank you so much! It worked, I almost lost hope and it's been like that for months! :)

Although now the music and sound on the home menu is gone, but games and apps, and setting have their sounds/music. It puzzles me what could have caused them to disappear
This missing sounds and music in Launcher is not a bug… it's a feature. Unlaunch applies these non-optional patches to the "Launcher" once installed. If you replace "Launcher" with TWiLight Menu++ (again: see https://dsi.cfw.guide/) you can customize almost anything. Theme like DSi Launcher, like 3DS Home Menu… with music, without. Whatever you want.

Hi so I gave the memory pit exploit a try and something seems to have gone wrong. I formatted it to FAT32, downloaded the files and made the correct folders, then inserted it into my DSi. Upon opening the photo app going to sd card - album, I was greeted by a frozen DS. The SD Card is fresh out the packet so that isn't the issue, and the DSi has just been formatted. The only one thing that might have bearing is the fact it is on ver 1.4.1E. If that's the issue is their any way to update it? If not then I have no clue.

It should work on lower versions. Are you using the release from https://dsi.cfw.guide/ ? The first version ever released of Memory Pit was known to only work on 1.4.5

Normally there is no reason to ever update a DSi (other than unlocking the Data Management option in System Settings by visiting the defunct shop… or redownloading purchased software from said shop).

Pretty much all DSi updates do is blocking flashcarts. For more information see https://dsibrew.org/wiki/System_Menu

Hello.:)

Did you use an regular SD Card or an microSD with Adapter ?
Please use for the Exploit a regular SD Card 2-8 GB and NON SDXC please !

You can use later a bigger SD Card and you can copy all Files 1:1 over.

Thank you.:)

Thanks for the speedy responses I can be a little slow with these things so bear with me. Oh and this is a new account hence why I'm not quoting.

alexander1970, the SD card is a Sandisk 32Gb and it's not microSD, so we can rule that out.

As for KleinesSinchen I was following the tutorial from the start of the thread and If I'm right the problem is an outdated copy of the pit file? Or maybe the lack of the fwTools.nds, either way I'll follow this tutorial and post an update once I'm done.

Edit: Thanks it worked. I realized as I was doing what you meant, that the DSiguide had different versions for different firmware updates. I'm a bit slow, but I get there in the end. Now I'm just going to move onto creating a NAND backup and installing HBmenu, let's hope I don't screw it up.

Hello an welcome to GBAtemp.

Putting the Memory Pit exploit on the SD is not the only thing to do. Refer to https://dsi.cfw.guide/ for getting a full TWiLight Menu++ installation (if not already done). ROM files can be put anywhere on the SD (TWiLight Menu++ can browse the SD), but the best idea is to use the standard directory which should already exist after following the guide SD:/roms/nds

Next time please put simple questions about the DS(i) into DS(i) NOOB PARADISE. For TWiLight Menu++ usage check the first post of the official thread. Take your time reading.

It is highly unlikely that any other exploit for the DSi will be made. Memory Pit pretty much "pwns" the DSi so there is no need for an alternative.

[ifixit] DSi Camera
[ifixit] DSi XL Camera

Alternatives:
  • Flipnote Lenny exploit (requires Flipnote Studio installed)
  • Hardmod (Requires soldering very tiny points. This hardmod is HARD!)
  • Get another DSi(XL) console with working camera and/or Flipnote Studio
Good luck and have fun!

Actually, this isn't entirely true. If you don't use Unlaunch, having an exploit for System Settings would give you all the same perms as if you had Unlaunch, since Slot-1 access isn't restricted and SCFG isn't locked.

How can I use a system settings exploit?

Also, dosen't memory pit use the album in the camera app as the PWNing Point? 'Cause iirc you can access the album even if the actual cams on your DSi are broke.
Now that you say it… I did test that last year. The camera app does not try to use camera hardware directly after starting. But it will force the stupid tutorial if it has never been completed before.
If the tutorial has been completed, Memory Pit should work as normal.

Hello.:)

My screen just turns green. Did I mess something up?

Please check

- All the needed Files are on the SD Card and in the correct Folder (I am pretty sure the HB Menu is missing) ?
- Which Firmware Version have your DSi please ?
- which SD Card Type (microSD or Regular) / Size (not too big 2 - 8 GB for the Exploit) / Formatted (FAT32) ?

Thank you.:)

I actually figured it out! I didn't have the HBMenu in the root folder

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
