I've just found out that GodMode can dump any 3ds cart into a .cia or .3ds file. My question is, can it do the opposite? Looking at the files of the cartridge it doesn't seem too complicated.

One more question, what are these .split files in the cart? I see that only the main .3ds file is needed to dump the game.

It's a ROM for a reason

To convert a CIA file to 3DS file, you have to use a computer tool, and if you want to put it on a cartridge, you have to obtain a cartridge from somewhere that isn't read-only (all the official ones are read-only).

carts are not recommended for 3ds roms, they are costly and require bs for firmware requirements

I just wanna make my dream of a rickroll cart come true
There are those bootleg Pokémon cartridges that are just flashcarts with the advertised game's ROM on an mSD. Guess you could get one of those and replace the ROM. To make it a Rickroll, maybe you could make one of those GBA videos and have gbarunner2 play it. No idea of it has support for that, though.

OP wants to bootleg a cartridge (or a flashcard), he doesn't want it to play games.

you can't bootleg a 3ds cartridge though, 3ds flashcarts are useless nowadays and overpriced. I'd rather buy a cheapo DS flashcart and bootleg that because those are dirt cheap.

Not to mention that dude basically acknowledged those points and then said the opposite

also, when I said "Don't bother with 'this method'", I was referring to Dwain's method which is basically a bad guide for browserhax, not what the OP wants to do

@Shadow#1 is correct. it's rom (read only memory). I think the split files you might be thinking of are xorpads. some are used for the digital manual among other things not part of the actual game.

Easy. Get any cheap DS flashcart (most of them are R4 clones), use an encrypter to encrypt RickRollDS as DS_MENU.dat (or _DS_MENU.dat depending on the flashcart) and replace the kernel with your encrypted RickRollDS so it launches instead of the kernel on boot.

So... uh. How do I encrypt this as DS_MENU.dat

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare

@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
