I think you mean you flashed your DVD drive and no you can't swap them out like that.

OSIG mismatch and DVD key mismatch.
Thank you for the reply and I yes I flashed the DVD drive. I had an idea it was not possible, but I thought I ask the experts. So if I RGH2 with the Ace V3 chip..... it really doesn't matter if I stay on the Dashboard 17349 or update to the new Dashboard?

I have 2 consoles, the 2nd was just given to me by a family member:
- X360 Elite/Jasper, EDIT: 2009-10-29 MFR, Kernel/Dash 2.0.1.17526.0
- X360 Slim with 135w 12v-10.83A PSU and 2011-02-18 MFR (trinity?), Kernel/Dash 2.0.1.17559.0 so it's hackable with RGH2

My doubts are:
1. Which one is USUALLY more reliable in the long run?
2. Which one is cheaper to hack (not DVD flashing nor ODDE)? I don't have any tools other than a soldering iron.
3. Can the HDD be replaced for a bigger one before and/or after the hack?

Thanks for any help.

Both are as reliable as it can get.
Tho I'd say the Slim would be better (fewer components and a CPU/GPU combo)

Both cost roughly the same when it comes to chipcosts and yeh, you can dump a 2TB 2.5 inch HDD in there after RGHing it.

Thanks! I was thinking of X360 Slim with a 1TB HDD so I guess that covers it.

I'm not sure if all modchips can be programmed from LPT, but from what I understand, the basic steps are:
- dump the NAND with a LPT cable: The safest way is doing multiple dumps and compare them to guarantee nothing went wrong.
- program the modchip using the dumped NAND? I now it requires a different configuration of the LPT cable, I'll study that later when I choose a modchip.
- install the modchip by soldering a bunch of wires.

Is this the gist of it, or did I miss anything?

Some chips come preprogrammed for consoles, others need to be programmed.
I'd say seek a cheapo NAND-X/JR Programmer.
It's a lot faster then the old LPT method.

But yeh, that's the gist of it.

Noobie here (coming from the PS3, Nintendo scene). Bear in mind that I have a lot of experince with electronics in general, but not 360s. Any tips?

I have some questions:
  1. Which model is the best to hack (not regarding the difficulty, but in terms of features, reliability)?
  2. Do I realy need special adapters for flashing a DVD drive? I mean it's a SATA drive with a non standard power connector. Can I just substitute the adapter with a bench PSU?
  3. Can I use a Teensy with a NAND dumper firmware to dump the NAND?
  4. I want to mod only one console, how much are the tools (adapters, modchips...)? On what can I cheap out?

1. I'd say get any recent-ish Slim, Winchester boards are unhackable tho.
2. You do need a VIA SATA PCI adapter or 360 USB Pro v1/v2 for the drive to be recognized, power can be pulled from the 360.
However Slims have more protections against drive flashing, some drives can't be flashed.
3. I think nand-pro supports infectus, not sure about teensy tbh.
4. Depends on what your budget is.
A Phat can be hacked for little money (few quid for a chip) or you could get a Slim that requires a Postfix adapter and do it with a JR Programmer and expensive coolrunner chip.

It kinda boils down on your budget and your choice of 360 ;p

Much appreciated for the help! I found a video that includes a link to a se7ensins topic on how to convert a $5 matrix nand spi nand flasher into a NAND reader and coolrunner writer, I'll try to find cheapo JR Programmer otherwise I'll build my own. Anyway, I've got some Googling to do ;)

You'll need to RGH it.
Or you could install an Xkey (it's a ODDE which lets you connect a external HDD to the console) if you have your DVD keys.
Your drive should be returned to stock if you go for the Xkey route.

Depends on which chip you have.
There's a hundred different versions out.
Oh yeah, I started googling about it yesterday and my enthusiasm for hacked the xbox has dropped, so many options...
I keep an eye on Xbox 360 S to buy, what chip (chips) should I buy (price doesn't matter) for dual boot?

Edit:
Team-Xecuter forums with install guides are blocked in my country :(

If you where to get a Slim, I'd say get a CR 3XL or Ace V3.
Dual NAND wise, you'll want a TX DemoN chip.

Hah, try a online proxy to access the site.

Depends on what Slim motherboard you'll get.
Worst case scenario, you'll need a SD R/W kit and a POST fix adapter.

I can't put an exact answer on that as Trinity boards need nothing but a chip and Dual NAND chip haha.
