Update your system via System Settings.

You should also update to Luma 9.1 but it won't make much difference to you (just in case you have any problems later, that's the first thing people will tell you to do).

Updated via system settings, on booting "failed to apply 1 firm patch", replaced boot.firm with latest luma 9.1, all is good. Thanks!

Having some problems installing a DLC cia for Persona Q2. Tried using both FBI and Bigbluemenu and while both say the cia was successfully installed, I don't have any of the DLC Personas, BGMs, Navigators or items and no messages pop up on launch saying anything along the lines of "Thank you for purchasing the DLC" or whatever. Also, on the title screen of the game there is a DLC option which is how you buy all of the DLC individually, but it doesn't actually load for me, it just says "Checking downloadable content" then the menu closes again. I also know for a fact that the cia file usually works, as I have confirmed with another friend who managed to install it using FBI, although he was using a US cartridge on a US 2DSXL. Are there any other programs that I should try using to install the file? I know that Luma can bypass region locking, but can it not do that for DLC?
For reference, I'm on a Uk/European New 2DS XL, latest firmware and luma update, and trying to install the DLC cia to a US physical cartridge (although dumping the game into a cia and trying to install the DLC to that doesn't work either) Thanks for the help!
Edit - Just checked the 3ds add on content section in data management, and it shows about 430 blocks for Persona Q2, but the game still isn't recognising I installed the cia.

I bought a Japanese 2DS (the cool as F metal slime version) and fully hacked it using the guide and the google translate camera app. No problem there, just took a little longer. I loaded some games I already run on my USA 3DS. Most are in USA/English mode but I saw some, specifically WarioWare Gold, are in JAP mode. The games obviously had both versions in them and detect the region to set the mode. Is there a way to tell a specific game (or all games I guess) to run in USA mode? Or do I need to use games that are English only?

*** I found this is a function of Luma but it's some manual work. Found the app "LumaLocaleSwitcher" and it looks like it worked for WWG. Hopefully that does it.

hello um,, I followed the instructions. All I did was replace the boot.firm and put the pksm.cia in the cia folder. And now I boot up my 3DS and everything has been wiped.

EDIT: Never mind we good.

Stupid question: where exactly on the SD card is the Animal Crossing: New Leaf save data?

https://hax0kartik.github.io/3dsdb/ has these entries for the USA region

"Animal Crossing™: New Leaf Update Ver. 1.5" 0004000E00086300
"Animal Crossing™: New Leaf Welcome amiibo" 0004000000198E00

On my SD card, I do not have a title\00040000\00198E00 folder.

I do have a title\0004000E\00086300\content folder, which contains three files:
0000001.app (about 2 MB)
0000003.app (3 kb)
0000001.tmd (267 MB)

It also has a subfolder, "cmd", with a file named 0000002.cmd.

I also have an extdata\00000000\0000198e\00000000 folder .

Am I missing something brazenly obvious here? (Aside from the fact that I really should be using Checkpoint or JKSM instead of poking around my SD card?)

EDIT: Oh! It's under \title\00040000\00086300\data . But why? That's not the title ID. Is the database wrong?

The game has eight releases depending whether it's the original New Leaf or Welcome Amiibo edition and by region [JPN/USA/EUR/KOR].

Yes it does, but 0004000E00086300 and 0004000000198E00 are the only two entries in that database for the USA region.

Checking http://www.3dsdb.com/ reveals that they have 0004000000086300 and not 0004000e00086300 . It looks like the one with the "E" is for the 1.5 update and the one without the "E" is for the base game. And both databases are incomplete regarding this popular game, for some reason. :-/

3dsdb.com mainly focuses on 3DS cartridge scene releases.
  • 0004000000086300 = Animal Crossing™: New Leaf (USA) (CTR-N-EGDE)
  • 0004000000198E00 = Animal Crossing™: New Leaf Welcome amiibo (USA) (CTR-P-EAAE)

https://hax0kartik.github.io/3dsdb/ includes titles found on Nintendo eShop.
  • 0004000E00086300 = Animal Crossing™: New Leaf Update Ver. 1.5 (USA) (CTR-U-EGDE)
    • For USA region, both original New Leaf and Welcome amiibo share the same update.

Other rom info lookup sites you can cross reference with:
  • advanscene.com/
  • no-intro.org/
  • datomatic.no-intro.org/
  • rom-news.org/
  • renascene.com/
  • dats.site/home.php

that title site used to exist, but the domain has expired. It can't be reached even with edited C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.

Noob question here! I'd like to hack my 3DS. The firmware version is 11.2.0-35E. Is it safe/advisable to update to the latest version (11.10.0-43 which, as far as I can tell, is also hackable)? Or should I stay with my current firmware version and proceed with the hack?

There is not much difference anymore since the Frog- or Fredminer process is very automated. But I would tend to stay on lower firmware and follow the "Soundhax" path of the guide. It is slightly faster/easier and does not rely on the DS(i) mode.
https://3ds.hacks.guide/ or if you prefer: https://3ds.hacks.guide/it_IT/

Once your 3DS has Luma/B9S you can update normally.

New to the scene having never modded a Nintendo portable console before. Having purchased a New 2DS XL earlier this year. Been reading all about modding and installing CFW. Just have a few questions before starting.
  1. Currently on 11.9.0-42U. Before I start is it safe to update to system 11.10.0-43U before modding.
  2. With the latest Luma3DS 10.0, 3DS Homebrew Menu 2.1.0, TWiLightMenu++ 8.5.0 and 3DS Shell 4.3.1 recently being released. I am going to be following the 3DS Hacks guide which seems to be the preferred method. Does this install these mods and apps? Are the latest versions be installed allong with other apps like FBI or will I have to go back and update them?
  3. Being an EU region console will be doing the Steelhax CFW mod. Am I correct in reading you can use the Steel Diver game cartridge instead of having to download and install it?
  4. I read that 3DS Shell the file manager program has FTP functionality built in. Is that the software to use if I want to transfer and manage files to the MicroSD card from my PC without having to remove the card from the console? Or are there other methods of uploading files to the Memory card using wifi network connection?
  5. Also wanting to install emulators to play other consoles. Just wondering if there is a list somewhere of the recommended/supported systems and emulators that are known to work on the newer/faster New 2/3DS XL consoles?

1. You're going to have to update to access the eShop since you're above 11.2 and can't use SoundHax.
2. If it doesn't, you can always install them yourself. You can also look at the guide and see where the links go.
3. The eShop free game is different to the cartridge game, so no you can't use the cartridge.
4. You can use SD Management in System Settings, but you'll need an SD reader in your console because some of the file transfers happen when the console is off (unless you read through the guide carefully and make a plan about how to do it with WiFi).
5. Not sure about emulators, but just use whatever is on the first page of the homebrew/emulator subforum.

Download the latest version of Luma3DS (10.0) and put the boot.firm onto the root of your SD card. This should fix your problem.
